I want to talk about something that doesn’t get spoken about enough, which is that strange middle part of healing where you’re not in deep pain anymore, but you’re also not fully steady. It’s that space where you feel tired, irritable, confused and unsure if you’re actually moving forward at all. I’ve spent a lot of time in this stage lately, and it took me a while to understand what was happening. At first, I kept thinking something was wrong. I’d wake up tired, a bit foggy, more sensitive than usual, and I would assume that meant the healing wasn’t working. My mind went straight to “I’m going backwards.” It wasn’t true. What I’ve come to realise is that this stage is often where the actual integration happens. Your system isn’t overwhelmed anymore, but it’s not fully settled either. It’s reorganising everything you’ve already healed. It’s processing. It’s putting things back into place inside you. And that takes energy. This is why you might feel tired or irritable. You’re using resources to reorganise your inner world, which is a huge part of the healing process. It’s not a sign of failure. It’s a sign that you’re shifting out of survival and into something steadier. The hardest part is that you don’t always see your progress in the moment. So I always look backwards and ask myself where I was last month or three months ago or even last year. And every single time I realise how far I’ve come. I’m not sitting in the same pain anymore. I’m not reacting in the same way. I’m not drowning in the same patterns. Even if it still feels messy, I can see the difference. If you’re in this middle space right now, you’re not doing anything wrong. Your body is integrating. You’re learning your patterns. You’re building new resilience. This is part of the journey, not a step backwards. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to go slow. You’re allowed to take things one layer at a time. If this speaks to you, I’d love to know: What does your messy middle feel like right now?
