I second that! We are obviously go-getters. And we get the job done. We have learned so many skills along the way. If you give me the chance, I promise you won’t be sorry, but I’m getting rejected left and right.
Is Your LinkedIn Profile Ready to Make a Great First Impression?
Last week, I shared a job posting from a nurse friend who’s now a business consultant for health tech startups (proof of what’s possible!). Within 24 hours, she had over 100 LinkedIn DMs from nurses interested in the role. 💬 But here’s what she shared with me: She noticed many nurses weren’t showcasing their skills effectively on their profiles or reaching out with clear, professional messages. 👀 In today’s job market, especially for roles outside bedside nursing, your LinkedIn profile is often your first impression. If you’re messaging someone directly about a job, you have to make sure your profile is polished and tells your story. I've created a new guide to help make sure your profile stands out! The guide is free to unlock once you hit Level 5 🔓 It’s packed with actionable tips to help you: • Build a standout profile that highlights your unique nursing experience • Reframe your skills to appeal to non-clinical employers • Craft messages that grab attention and get responses Let’s get your LinkedIn profiles in shape—drop your questions about LinkedIn below! ⬇️ P.S. You accumulate points by gaining comments and likes on your posts! So get to posting to start collecting points to unlock the free guides in the classroom!

I never really considered this before beginning my new job search. And I know my LinkedIn needs work. Applications always ask for websites AND your LinkedIn profile. I definitely should get mine in better shape. Building your community on LinkedIn is super important as well!!

You’re Probably Taking Some Skills for Granted
When you think about applying for a new job, do you focus on things like the types of patients you’ve cared for, the procedures you know, or the equipment you can use? While those are important for nursing roles, they’re not the full story. The truth is, it’s the soft skills—the ones we use every day without even thinking about them—that make us exceptional candidates for roles beyond the bedside. And we often overlook them! For example, as an ER nurse, I’m used to working in a fast-paced environment where I never know what’s coming next. Whatever walks through the door, I can handle it. Short-staffed? Low on supplies? No problem—I’ll make it work, even if that means jerry-rigging some tubing! That adaptability, resourcefulness, and ability to think on my feet has been invaluable for me in roles I've held with tech startups. Now it’s your turn: What’s a skill you use every day at the bedside that could make you stand out in non-clinical roles? Drop it in the comments below!

As an ER and Flight nurse, I can speak to adaptability. It’s one of our main skills, as well as time management and effective communication. These are skills we should all be highlighting on our resumes!!
I’m a Nurse, but I’m Also…
As nurses, our identity often gets so wrapped up in our work that it’s easy to forget we’re more than what our profession has been to this point. But as we explore paths beyond the bedside, it’s essential to remember all the other things that make us who we are. Yes, we’re nurses, but we’re also friends, parents, hikers, artists, adventurers, and so much more. Those passions and interests deserve just as much love and attention as our profession—they’re part of what makes life fulfilling. Who are you outside the scrubs? Share a photo or a fun fact about yourself, and let’s celebrate the many sides of who we are. 🌟

I’ve been a flight nurse for so long that’s it’s my identity, just like many nurses, our specialty defines who we are and the types of personalities we have. If you were to ask me to share a picture of myself, I would like have a photo in my flight suit. Above that I’d say I’m an adventurer, I’m always down to try something new. Recently my husband and I took a two week bike trip to Milwaukee for the Harley homecoming festival. Along the way we stopped at nearby MLB parks for baseball games. One of huge bucket list items is to visit all of the parks! I want the freedom to be able to do more things like this but still earn a living.

Hardest part: Writing different cover letters for each company you’re applying to is time consuming and seems fruitless when you get auto rejected
