When you think about applying for a new job, do you focus on things like the types of patients you’ve cared for, the procedures you know, or the equipment you can use? While those are important for nursing roles, they’re not the full story.
The truth is, it’s the soft skills—the ones we use every day without even thinking about them—that make us exceptional candidates for roles beyond the bedside. And we often overlook them!
For example, as an ER nurse, I’m used to working in a fast-paced environment where I never know what’s coming next. Whatever walks through the door, I can handle it. Short-staffed? Low on supplies? No problem—I’ll make it work, even if that means jerry-rigging some tubing!
That adaptability, resourcefulness, and ability to think on my feet has been invaluable for me in roles I've held with tech startups.
Now it’s your turn:
What’s a skill you use every day at the bedside that could make you stand out in non-clinical roles?
