First Draft Written
So usually I wouldn't share something like this - but I'm still testing so it's rewriting it. Yesterday I shared a premise of a story that I was putting into my N8N "First Draft from Premise/Form. Here it is again: A rule-obsessed HOA president dies unexpectedly… and is accidentally resurrected by a well-meaning but incompetent neighborhood necromancer. His soul splits: the fussy, hypercritical ghost version of him still tries to enforce the bylaws, while his zombie body rampages through the cul-de-sac breaking every rule he ever wrote. Now the necromancer and the ghost must team up to wrangle the zombie, restore order, and keep the HOA from imploding—all while discovering that sometimes chaos is exactly what a tightly wound spirit needs. Here is the output. It's not perfect - I hate POV switched in the same chapter (hopefully fixed the prompt so that won't happen) and I'm rewriting to make sure it's more "my style" https://docs.google.com/document/d/18LEb3GfCXvUfLtqzky17aYnTf_SANZMER6GubIRU-Ek/edit?usp=sharing Now the question is - would I release this? Not yet - but it's damn close. The main issues I have are the POV switching - it annoys me and makes it hard to do audiobooks with it for YouTube. We'll see what version 2 does after I go do stuff this morning (see? It's writing while I go somewhere else!) PS - this will be the workflow walk-through we do in an Advanced N8N class because it loops and parses information and all sorts of things.

How did you learn how to do all this with N8N? I am very intimidated by N8N. I thought I might try make.com, because it felt somewhat less intimidating. But then again...not really. It still feels like...a lot...to me. I made my own "Easy Peasy Book Machine" prompt that I give Claude, and it basically does the same thing for me, though it still stops to ask me questions after each part of the process. I should see about telling it to just write and edit without asking me what I think, and see what I get from it. But maybe N8N really is better? I don't know...

@Dana Sacco I figured you probably had a computer science background. I'm gonna try to take your N8N class at some point, as soon as I save up enough for it (or get a new credit card, lol).
Em Dashes - Keep them? Get rid of them?
I love em dashes. I hate what has become of them thanks to the anti AI crowd. Must I get rid of them? Gemini 3 said no. Claude also told me no. But those two have an obvious bias toward em dashes...
Saturday Nigh Confessions
What are some confessions you have about writing with AI that you're willing to share amongst friends in this safe space? I'll start - I have released several books I've never read. I have more but I'll jump in as this goes on, I don't want to be the only one. 😂

I read every single book before I publish it. AI still makes stupid mistakes that need to be corrected. For those of you who don't even read your own books, how can you be sure the AI even followed your outline? Often times I start reading the book and find the AI totally threw the outline out and started confusing itself like crazy. I wish I could learn to "trust" it as some of you have. It would make it so I wouldn't have to work as hard and I could put out a ton more books... What is your secret? @Jason Cahoon and @Dana Sacco ? lol. Please help me...

Note: I am not criticizing you for saying you don't read them. I just wonder how I can develop that same level of trust in it. Because I have found Claude especially likes to get confused sometimes...
Plans for the Week?!
So I want to get a couple things done: 1) the “premium” codex & outline workflow finished so they can start being loaded on the site - these are the ones with marketing 2) run more tests on the “write from start to finish” workflows 3) take a nap 😉 ok I do that daily anyways 4) Finish Joe’s workflow so he will stop bugging me if he can start making codexes again What are you working on this week?

@Buddy Tripp Authorrhythm looks good, but very expensive. Less expensive than the FFA's "YourFirstDraft", slightly. Personally, I'd rather develop my own first draft builder. I basically already have that with Gemini 3 or Claude Projects, so I'm not really sure yet why I should pay these companies $50-$75 to write me a first draft. I can pay Dana $40 and get a codex and outline that I can just hand over to Claude and be like "Write this book, make sure you follow the directions in the Codex." That seems more worth it, since Dana has already done the hard work of validating a full story Bible and outline for me, for those times when I need a book but I'm feeling supremely lazy. lol. Let us know how Authorthym goes for you. Maybe I'll give it a try in the future, to see if it gives better results than what I can get on my own.

I have some freelance work I'm finishing for someone. Then I have to read through my new novel one last time to make sure it's ready. I think it is ready, Claude says it is ready, and so does Gemini. Claude told me to "publish it already". But I feel like I need to go through it one more time to make sure I didn't make any stupid typos when I was going through it changing all the character names. After that, I've got an 8000 word short story I'm wanting to publish this week. I've also started getting Gemini's help with Amazon ads. Not sure how that is going yet, but we'll see.
My AI-checking Prompt
This is the prompt I start with when I am using Claude to edit a chapter. If I am writing WITH claude - I write the chapter then run this prompt: Review and refine this chapter for authenticity, voice, and flow. Work only within this chapter — do not summarize, condense, or alter the plot. Rewrite only where necessary to improve readability, pacing, and natural tone. Editing Focus 1. Flow & Authenticity Remove any phrasing that sounds AI-generated, repetitive, or mechanical. Keep the original tone, pacing, and emotional rhythm intact. Vary sentence structure for a natural reading experience. Strengthen transitions and paragraph flow where needed. 2. Dialogue & Voice Ensure dialogue feels natural and true to each character’s background and personality. Remove stiff or overly formal phrasing. Keep internal thoughts consistent with the POV character’s tone and mindset. 3. Outline & Continuity Confirm the chapter follows its outlined goal, complication, choice, and consequence. Maintain the correct POV character and emotional progression. Ensure relationships, motivations, and tone stay consistent with prior chapters. 4. Pacing & Scene Energy Tighten sections that drag or repeat information. Build tension and emotion through character action and reaction, not summary. End the chapter with forward momentum — emotionally or situationally — that leads naturally into the next one. 5. Genre & Tone Alignment Maintain consistency with the story’s world, tone, and genre. Keep any romantic, suspenseful, or emotional beats aligned with reader expectations. Preserve atmosphere and setting details without over-explaining. Output Goal: Produce a polished version of this chapter that feels natural, emotionally engaging, and true to the author’s intent — improving style and flow while keeping every plot beat and voice consistent with the original story.

@Dana Sacco I need to become more like you. Able to detach myself from a finished book rather than obsess over the editing.
