NetGalley
Has anyone used NetGalley before either as a writer or reader?

I've not heard of NetGalley either. Exactly what is it?

Okay, there are so many of these things around and if they're asking you to pay for reading and reviews, it's 99.9 % certain they're fake and useless.
Book Sirens
NetGalley is £500 for 6 months. Submitted my books to BookSirens instead. Will let you all know how I get on and will see if I can create a guide for future joiners.

So these are book publication platforms of the same kind as Amazon Kindle, Draft2Digital, Barnes and Noble and Book Vault?
Author Promotion Community
Book promotion is the bane of authors. Why it has to be so difficult and waylaid with fraudsters I do not know. But I have aways thought the real answer lies in authors cooperating with each other to create some sort of living, viable, interesting, even compelling community. This needs to be discussed and Lindsay, maybe you could encourage your members to get involved in the discussion in an ongoing way.

The thing is, even with a small group and minimal efforts there can be some gains but once those gains kick in, there is more motivation to do more. For instance, we could ask all our email contacts if they would be open to receiving emails from a genuine author run promotion group then provide to coordinator (who hopefully would understand bulk email tech) then submit little pieces for inclusion in said email. It could be that the group would provide more legitimacy/kudos/open recognition than an author promoting his/her own work.

Trouble is with platforms like Amazon, you can't be sure they're reporting sales, even if you're getting them.
Spam
I seem to be getting more and more (usually cut & pasted) spam from multiple individuals, who all deliver the same jargon. Does anyone else get this kind of hassle? John

Yes, lot's almost every day. How can you find anyone who will genuinely try to help you?
Promotion
How successful have people been at finding a bona fide promotion scheme?

I get regular emails from increasing numbers of promotional sites such as these below. I don't know if any are legitimate but they all have the same sort of messaging and promises. It would be nice to know if any of these were actually real and positive!
