What I mean is that many people spend a lot of time searching for the "perfect" training method, tool, or technique, believing that the next approach will be the answer. In reality, most dogs improve when their handler is consistent with communication, expectations, rewards, and boundaries. A good technique applied consistently will usually outperform a great technique applied inconsistently. The goal isn't to be the good trainer, it's to be clear, fair, and predictable for Bidgee.

@Barbara Butterfield In no way am I judging anyone. This is an absolutely judgement free space, it's just advice based around the questions presented. I'm 100% here to help without judgement.
Can anyone relate?!
Sometimes I look at my girl and honestly believe she goes through these same thoughts! But when I say her name she snaps her little head up and looks at me like "what?"
Can anyone relate?!

@Jennifer Mcfarlane yes at the start. But just stand there and wait, when she looks up, even just a little glance, release with your cue. It needs to be a calm walk through the door.

“Touch” recall
Hi guys, anyone got any tips to strengthen the “touch” recall training? Really enjoying this one and it works for us. Bodhi, being a dachshund sometimes nails it quickly and other times acts like he’s got no idea lol. I’m also curious to know how anyone else with a daschund successfully stops the inside barking (I’m aware of their nature!) and jumping off things?

@Jennifer Mcfarlane I'm out of town at the moment, but I will shoot a clip and pop it up when I return tomorrow.

@Jennifer Mcfarlane @Elyse Judson here is a little video around the recall to a touch drill. I use check-in for Ruby as touch is a different cue. But you can use any word you like. Sorry for the background noise, I will find my mic.
Lunging at cars…
Hi everyone, I would love to get some feedback on how I can stop my 7 month old Border Collie Marlo from lunging at cars when walking near a road… It’s definitely his most dangerous habit and something I would like to work on stopping asap. Any experience with this or guidance would be amazing please 🙏

Hi @Zali Nagle My first question is, is Marlo in a harness out on the walk?

The fast moving cars and possibly other objects like bikes etc, will be activating his default settings! His genetic drive is overriding everything. I will be there on Tuesday to run you through a few techniques to, 1. Channel the drive into the right direction. 2. How to interrupt and have him disengage before he reacts.
