Workflow Chat Bot
I hope this is cool to post here - A VFX Editor in the UK has been developing some free tools for assistants and he has created a WhatsApp Chat Bot called FrameShift to understand workflows, so that he can get a better idea of what tools to make. I've had a go and was pretty impressed. I'm going to share the original post from LinkedIn below. We're gonna need a bigger bot. I've spent months building VFX editorial tools. EDL comparison. VFX ID assignment. SubCaps to Markers. Small tools that solve real problems. But I kept hitting the same wall: I'm solving MY problems. I know my workflow inside out. I don't know yours. So I built something different. It's called FRAME/SHIFT, a WhatsApp agent for anyone in post-production, editorial, or VFX. Message it. Tell it what you do. Tell it what's broken. Tell it what task eats your week alive. It speaks the language, turnovers, EDLs, ShotGrid, FileMaker, count sheets, metadata that vanishes between departments. It's not a survey. It's a conversation with something that actually understands the pipeline. I want to know: Where does your workflow break? What would you automate tomorrow if you could? What tool do you wish existed? Every answer helps me build better tools for this industry. Not generic project management platforms. Not another ShotGrid wrapper. Real editorial-first tools, built by someone who's spent 17 years doing this work by hand. VFX Editors. Assistants. Supervisors. Coordinators. Post Sups. If you touch the pipeline, I want to hear from you. Jump in. Ask it something. Break it if you can. https://wa.me/447511188809

Flex that Frame!
Hi Edit Excelente’s! I'm prepping a new show and just wanted to ask your advice on a quick question: The assembly editor (editor has not been assigned yet) is considering using FrameFlex to crop and zoom his HD 1920x1080 dailies to match the framing leader, instead of dropping a crop/zoom/mask video effects on the timeline. Does that raise any red flags for anyone here? Best, Matt

Update. Decided to go with the old-fashioned Resize effect: scale and mask in one!

Some Good News for California Film Production!
Nearly two-dozen new TV projects to bring in $1.1 billion to California’s economy, thanks to the Governor’s newly expanded Film and Television Tax Credit Program. Following a near 400% increase in applications, the program welcomes new Hulu drama from Dan Fogelman, new Larry David series and season two of Lionsgate’s Emmy-nominated “The Studio” Read the full press release HERE More news about it HERE

Congratulations California! Such good news!
Cut Checkers
Looking for some advice on cut confidence checkers! I’ve used the "vertical blinds" effect in the effect palette for conform checks, but I need a workflow to verify that subtle speed effects and split-screen effects are accurate. What are people's favourite Avid-based hacks?
Welcome to Our New Platform
Hey everyone, We’re excited to share that we’re transitioning the Master The Workflow community to a new platform — Skool. For those unfamiliar, Skool is a growing hub of online communities covering just about every subject under the sun — from filmmaking and editing to productivity, coding, and more. Some groups are free, others are paid, and all of them are designed to bring people together around a shared passion. Our Feature Film Assistant Editor community will remain a paid platform, just like always. That means only paid students will have access to the course materials — nothing changes there. But this new space will allow us to build something more connected and collaborative. Think of this as your clubhouse. You can start new conversations, ask questions, share wins (and challenges), or just hang out with others walking the same path. And while our private Facebook group is still live and active — and will stay that way for now — we’re hoping this Skool community becomes a real gathering place where we can all interact more deeply and get to know each other better. We’d love to kick things off by getting to know YOU: 🎥 What are you currently working on? 🖥️ Where do you work from — on set, in post, at home? 📸 Show us your workstation (we're nerds for gear setups). 💬 Or just say hi and tell us what drew you to this career path. This is your space to connect, share, learn, and grow — not just as assistant editors or editors, but as filmmakers, creatives, and human beings. ⚠️ A quick note: Right now, this is not a private group. That means others can view the community, but only those who’ve purchased our courses or products (like you!) will have full access. So rest assured, you're still in a cohort of serious, committed learners. We’re looking forward to seeing how this evolves — and more importantly, seeing all of YOU here. Let’s make this a place where the next generation of editors find their people. Best, Larry & Richard Master The Workflow

@Farhad Hagverdi good call Farhad. Do we want something like a frequently asked questions section? What's a good way to search for answers to questions that have already been gone over a bunch of times? This was an issue with the Facebook group. I guess you could use the search, but maybe there's a better New Skool way...
