Great American Tire & Auto ~ Lindenhurst, IL Currently my team and I are struggling to find the right fit in the shop for a technician that truthfully knows and applies his skills. We have gone through many individuals that sell themselves as a ideal candidates (as well as being optimistic to work), but then are not as qualified as previously marketed, as well as being very unpunctual + unmotivated in the shop. Being "Great" is literally part of our name and I try my best along with the owners of the business to make sure that everyone retains the positive culture we are known for in the community we serve. Team culture is something that is incredibly huge in my eyes, and when we are faced with conflict from the unpunctual behavior, or attitude with these technicians, it makes the environment of the shop uncomfortable. Inefficiency is one frustration, but having to face constant babying, or conflict from technicians that just seem to not care is difficult for the owners, and for the other technicians to be exposed to. My question to the community: Our shop has a longstanding reputation in our geographic area for being the "go-to" place for automotive. First class customer service and thoroughness are something we are prioritize heavily. When looking for technicians, how can we navigate through who is being truthful in their ethic, and who isn't? How many of other shop's on this forum have found their best tech's from other places referred rather than general HR/job entities?
