My first youtube video
Hello everyone, this is Rani from Beirut, Lebanon. I’ve been woodworking since November, mostly learning through practice and YouTube videos. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I’m genuinely enjoying every part of it. I wanted to share my video here because this channel is one of the places I’ve learned from the most on YouTube. I’d also really appreciate your feedback on my work, especially the technical side and any mistakes you noticed. For example, a friend pointed out that I should build a jig for my table saw crosscuts, and another noticed that I was using the router in the wrong direction. I’m trying to learn properly and improve with every project, so any advice, corrections, or observations would mean a lot. Thank you in advance! https://youtu.be/tDf8cbXGIkQ?si=OPUobqxmlw0bFKIJ
Need help — I’m destroying my cutting board
Hello everyone, this is Rani. I’m still in my first year of woodworking. I made a cutting board and I ran into two problems: 1- While planing it, I realized I can’t use my hand planer in both directions. Some parts of the wood got chipped out, and I think it’s because I glued the strips in opposite grain directions. So if I go one way, I ruin the adjacent strip. 2- I used a router and guided it with a piece of wood to make a shallow groove around the frame, but it didn’t come out straight. Then when I tried going slower, I ended up cutting too deep in some spots. Any advice would really help, thank you

Hello @Marty Kanner , yes I'm not a fan of the juice groove too, but my friend insisted on it, and I warned her that I might mess it up! Anyways since its a gift and its my 2nd board to make, I think I will sand it a bit, and add some rubber feet to the messed up side. Thanks for the help!

Hello @Rich Murphy, thank you very much for the advice — you were absolutely right about the router bit. I had used a flat-bottom bit, and later realized the bit itself wasn’t fully compatible with my router, which caused it to loosen and cut much deeper into the board than intended. I ended up sending the board to a friend who will run it through an industrial planer, so it’ll end up about half the thickness now — exactly as you recommended. I also think I’ll skip the juice grooves for this one, as Marty suggested.
