Intro
Hi Oil Academy people, thanks for creating this platform Martin and I look forward to being part of this oil painting adventure. I love creating and have enjoyed watercolour, pastels and acrylic but now that I’m painting in oils it’s really my fav.

@Esther Shelley if you have any questions please do ask. I’m currently writing a book on how I paint and the techniques I use and how I use them. This should be finished by July and will be on special offer to my online students. I look for to meeting you in class. Martin

One easy way to clean brushes is this Ordinary cheep vegetable oil and hair shampoo. Put a small cup of vegetable oil in a jar and either soak overnight or massage (use rubber gloves) until the oil paint is removed from the brush. Then in a separate jar add hair shampoo and again massage this into the brush. Don’t use any water just neat hair shampoo. When all the oil paint is removed wash off the shampoo with hot water 50 degrees ish add more shampoo if needed. Finally rinse off with hot water and reshape the brush and leave to dry with the brush sticking up in a clean jar. This way no solvent is used. I will make a video and post it in the community showing how this works. There are other ways but this is an easy option that doesn’t use chemicals or solvents. Please remember to use plastic gloves so your skin is protected. Some pigments are not very friendly and should not touch your skin. Remember to only use water right at the end to wash off the shampoo after the brush is clean. Hope this helps Martin
I’m almost back 🙏
Well it’s been quite an interesting few months and time for a positive update. So what happened ? 3 months ago I passed out and as I fell I fractured my skull and ended up with a brain bleed and damage to the front of the brain. 😞 After many tests I found out my heart was stopping for 6 to 8 seconds multiple times during the day and night. It was this that coursed me to blackout all those months ago. So to fix this I had minor heart surgery 4 weeks ago. Good news is I should now be well enough to get back into the studio and again do live streaming from Wednesday 13th May fingers crossed. I’m really sorry about all this but I’m almost back in the studio and will look forward to seeing you all soon. Regards Martin

@Esther Shelley thank you Esther. It’s been a bit of a journey but hopefully I’m on the mend now. I’m going to start with 3 streamed lessons per week. They will be on a Tuesday, Wednesday and a Friday going live at about 5pm UK time. All will be recorded and saved on the community. Thank you for your understanding on this. Best wishes Martin
I have had to cancel today’s live stream
Due to medical appointments related to my head injury I'm sorry to say I’ve have had to cancel today’s live stream. The more positive news is as of April I will be streaming 3 live oil painting classes per week. These will be regularly streamed every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please view the calendar tab for streamed times. All streams will be recorded and available to rewatch from the classroom tab. Thank you for all your patience and understanding during this healing process. I’m pleased to confirm my fractured skull and brain bleed are healing well albeit somewhat slower than I had hoped. Regards Martin
