I pivoted to Project Management after seeing how much overlap there was with what was doing at the time (Customer Success Operations) and seeing much better of a career trajectory there was within Project Management. As I learned more about the core functions of a PM I found it deeply aligned with my natural skillsets and tendencies as well. I love bringing structure to chaotic environments, anticipating issues/roadblocks, and meeting deadines are a welcomed challenge.
Do You Know What “Concatenation” Means?
Have you heard of the word concatenation? It might sound complicated, but it’s really just a fancy way of saying “linking things together in a series.” In project management, we use this idea when connecting tasks, data, or even ideas to create a bigger picture or a seamless process. For example, when managing a project timeline, you might concatenate smaller tasks to form a sequence that leads to completing a major milestone. Similarly, in reporting, data from multiple sources can be concatenated into one clear and useful summary. It’s all about making things work better by bringing the right pieces together. So, what about you? Have you used concatenation in your work—or maybe without even realizing it? Let us know in the comments or by voting in the poll! Your insights might inspire others to think differently about how they link things together in their projects.

I've often used concatenation in Excel to combine a 'First Name' and 'Last Name' column to create a 'Full Name' column when the original dataset doesn't have an existing Full Name field but it's needed for the task (e.g. For the recipient name in a mass email communication).
Creating My Project Plan
After completing the project plan assignment I feel like I have a better grasp of how to actually carry out the planning phase in conjunction with previous assignments. I learn best by doing so this was a helpful exercise to participate in to tie things together!

Lessons Learned: Creating My WBS
After going through the exercise of creating a Work Breakdown Structure, I was surprised at how difficult it was for me to break down the actual work without the expertise of a team. Coming from a tech background I understood at a higher level what would be needed to execute this project, but found breaking things into bitesize subtasks down trickier than I originally thought it'd be. I found System Design to be the easiest main task to break down because I’ve had to do that for work. Development was definitely the hardest for me. To me, this emphasizes the need for your project team and SMEs in their respective areas to be able to plan a project effectively.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the ProjectMentor Pro program. I was somewhat new to the formal concepts of project management and Cass has provided me with so much contextual knowledge and so many pro tips that I definitely plan to apply in the workplace. I’ve left each session with a better understanding of how to tackle different tasks in the project lifecycle and Cass keeps us engaged throughout the session. I know that beyond this program I’ll be positioned to execute far better than the average Project Manager!
