The stars aligned today!
All of the parts for my new skates build arrived today except the bearings. (Ordered from 4 different shops for reference) I can’t wait to put these together and have them skate ready! I’ll just enjoy looking at them for now 😍😍😍 **Swooooooooonnn**

@Chelsea Ha thanks!!! I’m stoked! I’ve had my eye on the Arius plate & wifa for a long time! This is definitely a dream! And Not soon enough lol. Working on mounting them currently. I will likely get to try them out at the rink next weekend.

@Paula Pride idk actually. I had WIFA in mind and went back & forth between Riedell. I had narrowed it down to WIFA and the Arius plate. I couldn’t decide between the redwood or rose quartz colors. Then I found the rose quartz in my size at a discount (saved approximately $100 off of wifa’s retail). I also got the plates with a holiday coupon code and saved over $60, so all-in-all $160 savings! Then I looked at all indoor wheels in 57mm until I found the hardness, style, etc. I wanted. Anyway, it all came together and I can’t wait to skate on them. 🥰🥰🥰
I can do manuals on my non-dominant side now 🎉
That side always has the air of impossibility- so when it finally comes online… it’s cause for celebration!

Learning to pivot
Peace, everyone! I want to learn how to pivot. Any advice, suggestions, techniques or resources would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey! I’m practicing pivots too. I’m finding that looking and leading with my upper body is most helpful.
Knee and elbow pads
What brand of pads are you wearing these days? What do you like/dislike about the ones you’re using? I have great wrist guards, but I’ve only been using volleyball knee pads and no elbow pads. However, when I go to skate camp next weekend full pads are required. I’ve bought four different sets of pads from amazon and none of the knee pads fit. They’re either too bulky or too small. For now, I’m wearing elbow pads on my knees (!) and a different set of elbow pads on my elbows. I’m about 5’ and 105 pounds, so would be especially interested in what those on the smaller side have to share. Thanks!

187 give the best protection and are one of the most durable brands. I’ve tried triple 8 and they feel like they’d shift or slide off easily if taking a serious fall. I trust 187 as I used the pro pads while playing roller derby. I think Smoth scabs are decent. S1 also makes protective gear and I would expect they’re good quality considering their helmets are top notch.

@Jay Griffin no problem! Also I understand the awkwardness of doing crossovers in bulky pads, but if you practice in them, it will make your crossovers even stronger.
Has anyone made a switch from a high boot to a low boot? How did it go?
I’ve been skating on SureGrip Boardwalks and just (a few minutes ago) ordered a pair of VNLA Anniversary v2.0 Astro Indoor Roller Skates. One reason is that in the past 2 months I’ve been switching my shoes to “barefoot,” which have a flat flexible sole, a wide toe base, and no heel raise. They feel great—my posture and gait is better and my knee stiffness is almost gone. The other reason is that now my toes are feeling very cramped in the Boardwalks. So, since I can’t skate barefoot 🙃 I think VNLAs are as close as I can get—wide and no heel raise. I’m a little concerned about not having ankle support, and how the shift might affect how my skating feels. Any advice?

@Mary Love I’ve gone from low cut to high boots. I love my Chaya Melrose premiums. Very padded & comfortable and wide fit. Keep us updated on the a la mode!
