Real Talk: Skill vs. Just "Hooping"
I watched about 20 games the past 2 weekends, and I need to share what I saw because it directly applies to every player in this community. First, let me tell you what I was actually looking for. Not the score. Not wins and losses. I don’t care about that when I’m scouting my own players. I’m watching skills applied in live game situations. I’m watching pace. I’m watching footwork. I’m watching how many times you turn the ball over versus how many times you make the right play. I’m watching whether the things we grind on in training are actually showing up when it matters. Some players played good this weekend. Decent games across the board. But only a handful genuinely stood out to me. And when I say stood out, I mean I couldn’t take my eyes off them. These were the players consistently putting up 15+ points. Not once. Consistently. And every single one of them shared the same traits: - Intentional footwork. - Self-correction when something broke down. - Asking questions in training. Not just what to do, but why. They want to understand the purpose behind every skill we work on. The Power of Intentionality That’s not a coincidence. That’s a pattern. For example, a player who is intentional can repeat the same go-to move and continue to score. Why does it work? Because they are intentional with their setup, their eyes, and their pace. But here is the real separator: What happens if a defender plays good defense and recovers? Because that player is intentional, they don't panic. They adjust and go straight into a counter-move. That is the exact thing I saw this weekend and some last weekend. I watched a player’s go-to move get cut off, and instead of picking up the ball or forcing a bad shot, they seamlessly transitioned into secondary footwork and finished with a layup. They didn't "react" they just attacked with a different plan. The "Just Hooping" Trap Now let me talk about the players who were struggling. Because this is where it gets honest and I need you to really hear this.

Question For Parents/Players
New ownership at the gym gave me more flexibility. I’m looking at adding a Friday session — shooting only. No ball handling. No defense. No conditioning. We are locked in on shooting the entire time. Here’s what we’re covering: Form work for players whose shot is broken. Shooting on the move. Spot up shooting under a time clock. Pass and relocate and learning to get your shot off the ball. I’m keeping it at 5 players max. That’s intentional. Small group means more reps, more coaching, more shots up per player. You’re not standing in a line waiting your turn. If your player needs work on their shot this is the session to come too. I am thinking about having 2 different groups. One at 6pm and another at 7pm. Drop a comment or DM me if you’re interested. Want to see if there’s enough demand before I lock in the day.

Not sure if/when E and O ‘s team practices are moving to Friday, but definitely interested when it fits their schedule.
Court IQ - New App Beta Launch. I Created This To Make Players Better!
After months of thinking, planning, and honestly getting frustrated with what already exists, I finally launched the Beta version of Court IQ. We skipped the alpha phase and just built something we could actually use. The main reason I built this is because I was tired of training apps that charged extra just to add players, felt buggy for the athletes, or made coaches jump through certification hoops just to unlock basic features. That never sat right with me. I wanted something simple, reliable, and actually helpful in the gym so I decided to build it myself. We used Court IQ for the first time yesterday with my girls group, and I didn’t expect the reaction we got. The girls loved being able to shoot and track their stats themselves. I loved it because while they were shooting free throws, I could track their shots for them and it immediately changed the energy. Once the shots were being recorded, every rep mattered more. They were more focused. They slowed down. They cared if the ball went in. It got to the point where some of the girls were literally coming up to me asking, “Can you log how many layups I made?” One player even started writing her shots on the whiteboard while she was shooting so she wouldn’t forget before putting them into the app later. That level of buy-in told me everything. At the end of the day, everyone wants to improve and most people also want to see that improvement reflected somewhere. By giving players a shot tracker and a ranking system that encourages positive competition, it naturally pushed them to compete harder and take their work more seriously without me having to force it. It’s not just a win for players either. It’s a win for parents. At any point—during practice or games, parents can open the app and see exactly what their child has been working on and where they’re improving. No guessing. No vague updates. Court IQ isn’t just another basketball app. It’s a complete training system built to make improvement visible.

👏👏👏 What an awesome app! The girls definitely enjoyed using it yesterday. I really like that they can track stats from games, trainings, etc and view their progress and areas they need to focus on. Really well done!
Two Announcements - Training Times + Shooting Playlist
Hey everyone, quick update for clarity. Most of you know when training ends, but I often stay a little longer so the players can run, play, and implement what they learned. That said, once training is officially over, you’re always free to take your athlete and head out. No pressure to stay. I know some of you have places to be and players have homework, so leave anytime after the scheduled end. Also, for the players working on their shot and wanting more consistency, I put together a shooting playlist to help you train outside of practice. Some of you are improving fast, and some just need a little more instruction and reps. Here is the link to it - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoduB2Ju_JM6wgk_4o6FcbtZoGMFCziCg&si=LhPrgBdUUb5BVMI6 Thanks for understanding and for supporting your athletes’ growth.

Thank you Chris! Appreciate you putting the shooting playlist together!
How To Finish Through Contact
Usually when we train I often say you have to be physical and we use tools to simulate contact but honestly, the best way to learn is to copy what the best are doing. Basketball is a contact sport and you cannot avoid it. Being able to finish at the rim through contact is an underrated skill but if you can do it consistently, you become a huge threat to the defense. So here's a video showing you how to finish through contact.
