Mine is simply this in between state I'm in, between career and retirement, and what comes next. I'm a certified intuition painting facilitator; I love the practice for myself and sharing it with others. I've done it with family, friends, friends of friends, at my home and with a group of strangers at my cousin's new art house in Utah, which we are discussing doing again next year, it went great. My hurdle is I know what I don't want: a career, to hustle and market, I really want it to organically be what it will be as I step into whatever my life becomes (giving myself a solid year before I make big decisions). My fears revolve around the legal part, I have a business bank account, credit card (that I forget to use and so everything has been in my personal account :/. I do the waivers for participants, etc. but looking at liability of having it in my home with strangers, costs of insurance for the retreats, do I pay for the annual LLC for the amount I'm going to do this? Recommendations that I should have a lawyer and an accountant...all of that gives me a headache. I love painting, facilitating, connecting...the business part is giving me pause. I do need to focus on what I will do with my own art now also, since all I've done is collect it around the house, so maybe focusing on how I want to sell it. Also wondering if doing a non-profit has any benefit. I love the full retreats some do but I don't see myself going to the time and expense of doing it, I feel like doing it from my home with small groups makes it more accessible, and since I live in La Jolla and walking distance to the beach, it's a bonus for people to come here and enjoy that. But how to market that, and for how much I want to do it, and is it worth it for the business headache...I'm still on a fence but fully doing it with anyone that contacts me to come anyway. I figure it will eventually work itself out as I walk through this inbetween stage. That was the long story of I don't know and I have no focus. Hi, I’m Maria in La Jolla (San Diego), newly retired from higher ed and happily re-centering my life around my husband, dog, adult kids, grandkids, and making art. I do meditative watercolors most mornings, sometimes paint big acrylics, and also practice and facilitate Intuition Painting (very much process over product). I’ve facilitated and assisted at a few retreats and currently let things happen organically, offering something about once a month or so without pushing or planning too far ahead. We may sell our house, so the future is a bit open, but I hope to always have an art studio so I have the option of facilitating. I’m here for support, ideas, best practices, motivation, connection, and curiosity.
