[Start Here] Welcome to The Modern Data Community!
Hello! Welcome to The Modern Data Community. The goal of this community is to help Data Engineers on small (or solo) teams confidently build modern architectures by simplifying key concepts, clarifying common strategies & learning from others. Pumped to have you here! ==================== HOW IT WORKS ==================== By joining, you get instant access to tons of free content (see Classroom). Dive right in. But even more can be unlocked by contributing to the Community, which I encourage you to do. It works like this: Contribute (post/comment) >> Get points (likes) >> Reach new levels >> Unlock content ==================== 6 SIMPLE GUIDELINES ==================== ❌ Do not post error messages looking for others to debug your code. That's why Stack Overflow and other tool-specific Slack channels exist. ❌ Do not use this community for self-promotion (unless Admin approved). We all know it when we see it. ❌ Do not create low-quality posts with poor grammar/spelling or that provide little (or no) value. These will be deleted. You can do better! ✅ Ask questions, share your experiences & overall be a good person. This not only helps everyone get better, but can help you unlock bonus content faster. Win-Win. ✅ Speaking of wins, share yours! Whether it's finally solving a complex problem, hitting a team milestone or starting a new gig - post about it. You'll get the props you deserve and it just might inspire somebody else. ✅ Take the time to craft thoughtful posts & always proof-read before hitting submit. We're all about quality here. High quality posts --> more engagement (aka you'll climb the leaderboard & unlock content) --> ensures the community stays enjoyable for everyone. ==================== QUICK LINKS ==================== Here are a few links to help you get going: - Classroom - What's Your Data Stack? - Leaderboard - Work with me (Kahan Data Solutions)

@Jonathan Philippou Nice transition, welcome!
Migrate Metabase Question dependencies.
Hey team! I'm working in building a new dbt project on our snowflake datawarehouse. The idea is to improve how models are built, and the data architecture overall. One of the things I believe will take us some time is re-arranging all the existing metabase questions and migrating them from old models to the new ones. Anyone has faced this challenge before? If not, what do you thing would be the best way to do it?

@Michael Kahan Totally agree with this approach. This way you can at the same time filter and drop what is not being used or logic/transformations taking place that are not adding value to the business or the needs of stakeholders working on dashboards. It would be like a forced garage clean-up in the process of migration. @Manuel Ponsa Good luck with it!
SQLMesh v dbt
I've recently been looking into SQLMesh and wondering if anyone has any project experience and can comment on how it compares to dbt core in practice. Also if you've another transformation tool feel free to share your experience.

@Tomas Truchly @Oleg Agapov Agree with both of you guys. One needs and conforms the other. On my side I'm keeping with dbt for the moment. =D

Hey Michael, I simply couldn't pick one! I am developing end-to-end data products at the moment :D It requires and will require for this year a mix of all of them actually. Hope it helps! Cheers, Manuel
Need help/feedback on DE projects
Hi guys, I‘m a student learning about data engineering and building projects to get some internships in the field of data engineering. I just finished a warehouse architecture overview and I‘m not quite sure whether I‘m on the right track or not. Is anyone experienced and willing to review the architecture and give some feedback? I would really appreciate it :)

@Daniel Gerlach I would strongly agree with @Oleg Agapov and @Tomas Truchly here. Start with your minimal set of tools possible and simplest integration. You can complicate/enhance things up later!
