Xu Shi Xi in summer of 2015 briefly demonstrating the 8 fixed postures along with variations of the moving aspects to these static postures. 定式 Dìng Shì or static postures are a major method to train the body to build power and moving strength, fluidity and connectivity in movement. They are one of the major practices that drives the power generating mechanism of Baguazhang. While in Baguazhang there are many 定式 Dìng Shì each lineage often have specific ones they focus on based on people’s preferences for techniques, strengths or weaknesses they are trying to improve on.
