HobbyScool: More Than Just Pastimes 🎨🎶⚽
Hobbies are often seen as something “extra” we do when we have free time. But if you think about it, they can be so much more than that they shape our character, bring us healing, spark creativity, and even teach us discipline and patience. For some, hobbies are a way to escape stress. For others, they’re a path to self-discovery, building confidence, and even creating new opportunities in life. I believe that what we choose to spend our time on outside of work or school says a lot about who we are and how we want to live. 👉 What’s a hobby that has deeply impacted your life and in what way? 👉 Do you think hobbies can be just as important as formal education when it comes to growth and purpose? Let’s open up a real conversation around how our “small passions” are often what give our lives the biggest meaning.

As a retired RN i can attest to the healing aspect of creativity. I worked with my patients and peers to provide many opportunities for healing through creating. We provided patients and their caregivers with workshops that combined guided imagery and a related creative project like, collage, silk painting, card making. These groups were both profound and fun. We provided supplies for patients at the bedside via art carts that would go from room to room offering crafting supplies, instruction and conversation., It was wonderful to feel the energy change that this simple thing brought to these folks. I worked with my peers providing crafting days like earring making, SoulCollage card making. We would set up the project and staff would jump in throughout the day when they had a few minutes. These simple projects allowed staff to relate to each other in new and deeper ways. Providing these services was also the thing that made it possible for me to remain a nurse. The creative process balanced the highly stressful and increasingly technical practice of nursing. As a retired person I now lead community crafting groups that meet at our library. We meet for social crafting each week . I also organize workshops once a month where community members share a craft they love. There is nothing like getting into the “zone” when you are creating. It is healing.
🌍 Where in the world will you be joining us from?
