Bowls are here!
In introduction to making and trimming bowls has been added to the classroom. My plan is to continue to add more to the course but this is a good start and also a decent primer on trimming. I hope you like it!

Can’t wait to check it out since I dislike trimming 😎
What’s your favorite part?
What’s your favorite part and least favorite part about making pots that isn’t part of the making process? My favorite is brainstorming crazy ideas. I draw little pots on everything! My least favorite is probably just cleaning up after myself… or maybe shipping. I despise shipping.

Trimming thrown pots is my least favorite activity. Favorite would be collaborating and inspiration from others. And of course watching great reels from Clay with Trey!
Bat advice
I need to buy some of my own bats to use at my community studio. They have plenty for me to use, but I'd like to have the flexibility of leaving items on the bat to dry occasionally. Since I want to let items sit a while, plastic is probably not ideal?? I'm new to this, so looking for recs on what I should buy. Thank you!

We have some plastic ones at our community studio, but I wouldn’t leave it long on the bat to dry. I usually transfer them to wood the same day I throw. Others might have ideas for types of bats to purchase. Happy throwing!
Luminaries (January 2026)
Our first community project is finally here! If you check out the classroom there are two brand new tutorials for making either a hand-built or wheel-thrown version. My hope is that you would run wild with this project and make it completely your own. This thread is for questions, comments, and brainstorming. Feel free to ask questions, answer questions, and post progress pictures. Have fun, be encouraging, and make something you love!

@Becky Brown thanks! We lived in Texas for most of a decade, and the environment continues to inspire me.
Infinite Ideas
Sometimes you just don’t know what to make. I find myself making the same thing over and over again and it just gets a bit stale. I’ve got two resources for you to help you come up with some ideas. One is pretty darn old and one is brand new. The first is Val Cushing’s exhaustive list of things to make: it is an absurdly long list of ideas and honestly… some are great and some are just ridiculous. But I love the crazy ones like “chair” or “bathtub” the other resource is a brand new website called potteryspin.com. The creator yj.pottery (Instagram) messaged me and told me to check it out and it’s honestly really cool. She didn’t pay me or anything to say that, it’s just genuinely neat. It randomizes different things for you to try out on the potters wheel and you can adjust the difficulty or respin things you don’t like. It’s worth checking out if you’re just kind of stuck at the wheel.

This is great, Trey! Especially during the winter, when I feel a bit low in inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
