Thank you for my membership.
I am a Danish detector archaeologist who wants to recreate some of the things we find with a metal detector. Is there a method to dilute the clay so that you can make a liquid cold cast and then heat it up with a gas burner or perhaps in a microwave kiln?
Thank you for my membership.

They look amazing. I have a Danish friend who made a replica cross for a museum.
Soldering made easy? I just LOOKED easy lol
I've just seen a YouTube video of a person using silver solder paste to solder a copper jump ring using a torch (like our firing torches). It looked too easy? He didn't appear to use flux or any probes or anything. Just quenched pickled and polished it after. Is it actually THAT simple? Why do I see soldering kits with probes , various fluids etc? Thank you.

A flux of some kind is useful to keep the join clean when you’ve prepared it. I think it stops it oxidising before the solder has flowed and made the join. I don’t use paste solder - I don’t like the ‘fumes’ that come off it and I find it more difficult to estimate how much to use. With a little ‘chip’ of the strip solder you know exactly how much you’re using. I use borax flux - it comes in a solid cone and you grind it in a dish to make a ‘fluid’. Are you in the UK (I know you can’t buy it in Denmark).
Kiln cherry finally popped!
Guess who has finally popped their kiln 🍒!!!!! Eeeek. After staring at it for a couple of months I've finally bitten the bullet and gone for it! I'm waiting for everything to cool down before I go near it now. :) so excited but also terrified. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing half the time but so far I've been able to successfully torch fire silver with no mistakes. Now I'm using my kiln to try copper clay!

I remember years ago, teaching people who then bought kilns and then were too worried to switch them on. I had a woman who brought her kiln with her so I set the programs and showed her how to switch it on. Once it reached temperature (I have an extractor far) we switched it off so it could cool and we used mine. She did then have the confidence to use hers at home.

@Jacquelin Pettifer Joy and I attended a course with Terry Kovalcik years ago and she taught a course in my previous studio, also a long time ago, so we’re good friends - even at long distance

I’m from North Yorkshire, near Filey. UK. I’m retired but I used to teach history of architecture & design, part time for a few years. Then I had my own business teaching art clay diploma and enamelling. I closed my business at the start of the pandemic and retired. I really stopped teaching in my studio because I was diagnosed with MS (which is okay) it made me take more care of myself and my only real issue is fatigue and a dodgy right hand. I still make things for myself and enjoy learning new silver clay techniques.
