Question
Hi, sorry, not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. When you have an urge to engage in physical activity like punching or running, but your nervous system has learned to interpret heightened physical sensations as dangerous, how should you approach release work? If your body associates certain symptoms with threat rather than healthy exertion, even gradual exposure could trigger panic. Should you introduce physical activity slowly through titration so your body learns these sensations are safe, or does this gradual approach risk reinforcing the underlying fear response?

Thank you so much for this! I have a couple more questions: 1. What reclaiming exercise might actually look like - could you give me some examples of how this might work in practice? I really get the distinction you made between fast/slow and fear/choice, but I'm having trouble picturing how to actually apply it. My worry is that I might start from a genuine place of choice, but then fear takes over partway through—does that make sense? 2. Dissociation and movement - This might not be relevant, but I used to be super active with tons of energy to burn off—always running places, dancing like crazy. But reflecting on it now, I wonder if that was actually a form of dissociation rather than authentic movement. Not sure if that connects to anything, but thought it might be worth mentioning!
