Knit fabrics explained
When choosing knit fabrics for tshirt construction, you have to consider how the fabric's properties, specifically its weight, thickness, drape, and stretch, will interact with the fit of your pattern. When Lycra® or elastane is blended into knit constructions, it fundamentally alters the fabric's core physical properties: stretch and recovery. This completely shifts how a pattern maker approaches draft ease for different silhouettes. So if you're were wanting a sleek fitted tshirt, choose a fabric with Lycra or elastane. If you prefer a boxy tshirt shape you would choose a standard single jersey or an interlock knit. Want a semi fitted tshirt - try a standard single jersey.

I still haven't worked with knits yet, but I'd like to. I have an entry-level serger (overlock) that's kind of meh, but it might not be meh with knits.

Hello, I'm so glad you're here! I started this group to support thoughtful, focused learning - the kind that happens when people can ask real questions, share work-in-progress, and think things through without noise or pressure. To get the most from the group I'd love you to contribute. Have you noticed the little number under your profile picture? That's your level rank and it goes up the more your comment and interact. You can do this by asking questions, sharing what you’re working on, or offering considered feedback to others. To protect the learning environment, this is not a space for self-promotion or spam, and I ask that all suggestions and feedback are shared constructively and with care. Sewing is a skill built over time, and mistakes, questions, and uncertainty are all part of the process. These guidelines exist so everyone can feel comfortable slowing down, learning properly, and sewing well together. 👗 Keep posts on topic 🩱 Contribute so you can level up 🩳 No self-promotion or spam 🧥 Make suggestions constructive Let's kick this off with an introduction - pop a comment below and let us know what you're working on

My projects for the summer, so far: Try making baby clothes for my friend's gorgeous 6-month old. Hoping for the best! Draft a pants pattern based on this pant, https://thinkscarpa.com/products/zero-maria-cornejo-takeo-pant-denim-taupe?srsltid=AfmBOoqxrqzFSIWeN4vQxuKbasMpHtn23oGdHV6M_OSqlOUvNX89waJq, but with less width in the legs. I love this Ulla Johnson skirt, and want to recreate it with or riff on it as a jumpsuit or shirtdress.
