Hello and welcome — I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Lisa, and I created this space from both lived experience and deep understanding. As a military spouse, I’ve walked the path from battlefield to home—through trauma, confusion, isolation, and the long road toward healing. I know what it’s like to love someone who has been changed by trauma, and I also know what it’s like to lose pieces of yourself along the way. This community exists because healing was never meant to be done alone. Whether you’re here because you live with trauma, support someone who does, or are trying to understand what’s happening in your home or within yourself—you belong here. This is a space for learning, reflection, honesty, and compassion. There is no pressure to have it all figured out. There is no expectation to “be okay.” Just a place to breathe, learn, and grow together. I’d love for you to introduce yourself (only what feels comfortable): - What brought you here? - Are you here for yourself, or to support someone you love? - What are you hoping to find or learn in this space? There’s no right or wrong way to show up. You can share a lot or a little. You can read quietly or engage when you’re ready. You are not alone here. @Aaron Potsick yes having the opportunity to be open and honest is important to know when it is the best time to do so with your family. However, this space is will be a great place to work through when and how to be honest when communicating to your family.
What Trauma Really Is
When people hear the word trauma, they often think it only applies to extreme or dramatic events. But trauma isn’t defined by what happened — it’s defined by how the experience affected you. Trauma is what happens inside us when something feels too overwhelming, too frightening, or too much to process at the time. It can come from a single event, long-term stress, or ongoing emotional experiences that made us feel unsafe, unseen, or unsupported. Sometimes trauma looks obvious. Other times, it’s quiet and hidden — showing up as anxiety, exhaustion, emotional numbness, irritability, or feeling disconnected from yourself or others. Many people carry trauma without realizing it, wondering why things feel harder than they “should.” What’s important to know is this:Trauma is not a weakness. It is the nervous system doing its best to protect you. For many of us, learning this is the first moment of relief. It helps us understand that we’re not broken — our bodies and minds adapted to survive. This space exists so we can begin to understand those responses with kindness instead of judgment. Healing doesn’t mean erasing the past. It means learning how to feel safer in the present. You’re not alone in this, even if it has felt that way for a long time. @Aaron Potsick Yes, sometimes we feel as though we are alone however, having support from others who are not related can help the process of navigating how to open up and share.
Why this Space Exsits
This space was created for people who are carrying more than most ever see. For those who are living with trauma.For those loving someone who is.For those trying to understand what’s happening inside themselves or within their families. Many of us arrive here feeling confused, overwhelmed, or exhausted — not because we’ve done something wrong, but because trauma changes how we experience the world. It can affect our emotions, our bodies, our relationships, and even our sense of who we are. For a long time, I didn’t understand what was happening in my own life. I knew something felt heavy and hard, but I didn’t have the language or the support to make sense of it. Learning about trauma — and realizing I wasn’t alone — changed everything. This space exists to offer that understanding. Here, we talk about what trauma really is, how it shows up in everyday life, and how healing can begin — not through perfection, but through compassion, knowledge, and connection. This is a place where you don’t have to explain yourself, fix yourself, or have all the answers. You’re welcome whether you’re here to learn, to heal, or simply to breathe for a moment. There’s no pressure to share. Just being here is enough.
