Commission Sales Question
How is an author suppose to make money when book signings ask for 40% commission? Is this normal commission sales for the book stores? I get that the book stores buy your book and you receive a commission on that sale but if you supply your own stock, does the book store still get the commission sale?

When I set up my book with Ingram Spark there was a suggested discount price for bookstores of 55% and I heard most bookstores won’t buy the book unless they are getting that discount. I haven’t done a book signing but that commission doesn’t sound too surprising to me. It is definitely not a big money maker. I recently had a 25 book order and it made me less than $70. I think it’s more about visibility and for me I’m working on things outside of the books to be the income.
