Monday Question :)
Hey everyone I’ve been quiet the past couple of weeks, my grandmother passed away and it’s been a lot. But I’m back, and I’m excited to jump into this year with all of you. There’s something clarifying about stepping away and then coming back. It reminded me why I built this space in the first place, because podcasting can feel isolating, and we all need people who get it. So here’s my Monday question for us: What’s the ONE thing you’re focusing on the rest of this month that moves your podcast forward? Not the busy work, or the “shoulds.” The thing that, if you did nothing else, would make January feel like progress. For me, it’s getting back into my rhythm and making sure you all have what you need to think strategically, not just stay busy. Drop yours below. Let’s start the year strategic, not scattered.

@Andrea Balogun Thank you so much! 🧡 And I'm so excited that you sent out your invites today! Are you excited or nervous for the conversations?
Episode & cover art
Hey Leah, do you recommend having separate episode artwork that is different than my cover artwork? Thanks.

Great question! I have a podcast episode about this https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/difference-between-cover-art-and-episode-artwork-for/id1813873589?i=1000733819808 But to sum it up - The episode artwork is optional... Think of it like a chapter illustration in a book. It's nice to have, but the book still stands without them. Also, fun fact, not every podcast app will show the individual episode artwork. I would not create a separate graphic and just put the title of the episode on there - that doesn't do anything for you. (ask me how I know 😂) What I would do is pull out a spicy quote or tidbit and put that on your graphic. Now, if you look at my show, I put the title on there before this episode aired and then I took my own advice and you'll see that change with this episode specifically and beyond. Does that help?

@Cindi Stickle If you have a template for your show notes you could make a note on there to remind you of the timestamps 🙂
Intro question
Hi Leah! I was wondering if I should add a short clip from my episode before my intro? I know I’ve heard other podcasts that do that. Thanks!

Great question, Cindi! The reason I'm not a fan of this is because there is no context to what is being shared. I'd rather have a 30 sec intro and then just get right into it. But I know there are several out there who do this - so it's really a personal preference.

@Cindi Stickle You bet! Let me know if you have any other questions
Seeing a dip in downloads? That's just the holidays!
Hey friends, let's talk about those November/December download numbers. Seeing a dip right now? Holiday's gonna holiday. Here's what I want you to remember about the podcast industry as a whole... people listen to them during their routines. Think commutes, morning coffee, dog walks, and gym sessions. The parts of their day that look the same week after week. And what happens during November and December? Those routines get completely thrown out the window. People are traveling, kids are home, hosting family, running errands at weird times, and watching holiday movies instead of their usual Tuesday workout. Podcast listening happens in the margins of routine, and during those months those margins basically disappeared. This is completely normal. You didn't mess anything up. Say it with me: I didn't mess anything up. Your content is still landing, and your audience is still there! They're just living in a different rhythm right now. So if you're staring at your analytics and sad, please close that tab. This is seasonal, it'll shift, the numbers will change this month, routines will return, and your listeners will be back. In the meantime, the most strategic thing you can do is to stop checking those numbers every day and focus on what matters right now. The holidays did their thing. Your podcast is fine.

@Colie James Have you ever promoted the Dec episodes again later in the following year? I'm a big fan of repurposing/replays in December with new titles/notes.

@Colie James I mean you get ALL the gold stars because that's impressive, Colie! Anytime you want downtime this year, or if historically during the summer downloads go down a little for you, then yes, I would try a replay or two then :)
Happy New Year, Strategic Podcasters! 🎉
2026 is here, and if you're anything like me, you're probably seeing a lot of "new year, new you" energy everywhere. Here's what I want you to remember... Strategic podcasting isn't about doing ALL THE THINGS starting January 1st. It's about doing the right things with intention. So if you're coming into this year with a clear plan? Amazing. Drop a comment and tell me what you're focusing on. If you're still figuring it out? Also amazing. That's what this community is here for. Ask any questions you have. And if you're giving yourself a few more days to ease into things? Strategic rest counts. The podcast will still be there when you're ready. Whatever your pace, I'm excited to see what you build this year. This community might be new, but the potential here is real. Let's make 2026 strategic as heck! – Leah
