Publisher's Weekly promotion
Hi everyone, Publisher's Weekly is offering a promotion (https://booklife.com/about-us/pw-select.html) that sounds good and is reasonably priced. Has anyone done this promotion and had good results? Julie, if you or one of your folks want to chime in, is this sort of promotion worthwhile? Thanks! Lauriann

Redoing Metadata
Hi all - I need to review and get help with my metadata, mostly finding the right keyword phrases for discoverability. Does Author Launch kit do this for us? I’m just getting into all this with this group. Thanks!! Lauriann

@Joe Tyndall that’s great for you! I need to work more with ALK.

@Kevin Hall thanks Keven! My podcasts are on my website (for months). Not sure what you mean by “link the episode transcript to the posting.” I don’t know if there’s a transcript somewhere.

More on setting up a community
Hi all - I very much agree with Julie that one can’t count on book sales to make a living. I have a lot of notoriety and authority in my field, built up from writing my first edition in 1995 (just published my 3rd edition). Problem is that I write about a subject my readers (massage therapists) don’t like to deal with: the high rates of injury among massage therapists. Some do so I do sell books, but it’s a touchy subject. I’ve spoken in the past at industry conferences- unfortunately in my industry they don’t pay you to speak, they figure the publicity and chance to sell your book is enough (sigh). But i have a lot of content from these 30 years that I can repackage, and I can also do live webinars with Q&A and consulting for individuals or organizations with an hourly fee. I just really don’t know how one sets this up and gets people to come. I had a Facebook group with nearly 900 people signed up, and I could barely get them to participate no matter how much prodding I did. I’ve done lots of podcasts with little result in sales. If anyone has advice, or if there’s a place in the Classroom here where this is discussed, please let me know. It’s great that Julie talked about this, but I haven’t seen a practical guide to actually doing it. Thanks!

@Joe Tyndall what I don’t understand is that I’m already quite well known (for 30 years). But my 2nd edition was 17 years ago, so perhaps I’m not as well known among younger people.
Take superlative claims off Amazon book description?
During the Summit, I believe Julie mentioned that you can get your Amazon page banned if you say your book is "the best" or a "bestseller." I realize that I put in my book description that my book has become the "gold standard" in the industry (frankly, the first edition was the first book on my subject, and my recent third edition is the only complete book on the subject), and also mentioned that I've sold 100k copies worldwide (this is an estimate but it's around that number) and the book has been required or recommended reading at hundreds of schools worldwide (again, true). Do I need to remove these claims? Hoping one of the Booklaunchers people will weigh in. Thanks!

Thanks again, everyone! I took off those words and I think the description reads better! 😀

I took that language off of my book description. Don't want to get removed by Amazon!
