The most fascinating thing about fishing is that you never know what’s happening beneath the surface. 🎣 Sometimes, despite having the right gear and technique, you come up empty-handed; other times, a casual cast brings an unexpected surprise. To all the seasoned anglers out there: what do you think is the most important factor in landing a big fish—experience, technique, or a bit of luck?

They all come into play. Some techniques will produce bigger fish, some techniques will have a better hookup ratio than others. Experience will help you apply the right technique at the right time. Being open minded to new techniques and change will also lead to future success. At the end of the day, a little luck of throwing your lure in the right place at the right time will always produce that big fish you couldn’t plan on catching.

Anyone got tips for trolling for lakers on Keuka lake or any finger lakes and ontario? With a downrigger

I’d say your best bet for something like that would be a local Facebook group to that area. I’d help but don’t have any kind of experience with downrigger fishing.

Tournament tips
Hey y’all, I got qualified for a high school championship out at lake Waco. Has anyone fished it recently or know of anything that could help? I know there was a MLF tournament recently at Waco.

I haven’t been on it personally but have been on quite a few around the area. Watching the MLf will give you a lot of hints to the areas. When is your event?

Washing the rig
If you spent anytime catching fish in a kayak or bass boat, you know that deck padding can get pretty raunchy. I like to mixed a bucket of water and dish soap with a nylon brush and wash mitt to get the grunge off. Sometimes I’ll soak the whole thing down with a heavy cleaner like Purple Power or simple green. I know people like adding a protectant like 303 but I tend to replace my decals every so often when I jack them up and like them to stick, so I never have. What protectant do you like?
