Starting Out
I’ve been going to the gym for about a month now, and I’m still very new to working out. I’m tall, skinny, and lean, and I’m still trying to figure out a concrete and efficient workout plan. Does anybody have any advice or recommendations on what my workout plan should look like? (I’m 6’1”, 151lbs, lean, high metabolism, small appetite—if this info helps)

Could you give more information about what kind of gym you are using and if you are interested in changing that or not?
Fraternus
Fraternus is a weekly Catholic spiral group for men and their school aged sons. Has anyone participated in or started a Fraternus chapter at their church? I am starting on the path to start a chapter in our church for my son and I. I'd like to hear your experience with it and any advice, insite, or guidance you might have.

We have another father/son program at our parish, but if we didn't, I would be interested in starting Fraternus. I've been following their associated magazine Sword and Spade and other content for several years - also the book Leaving Boyhood Behind by Jason Craig.
Need to Lock In
Hey everyone, I’ve been lifting and working out now for years and I’ve had my ups and downs on my journey, especially over the last 3 years. I started at 245lbs at 6ft tall, got down to 210, then gained it back to 235, now I’m back down to 215, but my goal weight is around 200lbs. I’ve been stuck around the 215 mark for the last 3/4 months. I’m trying to eat in a deficit and I generally do well on the weekdays as I eat the same thing about every day, but the weekends it can get away from me. I lift 2-3 times a week, try and walk for 30 minutes after each workout. I need to increase my cardio to help with my deficit, and I need help staying accountable. Any suggestions or anyone want to help me be accountable?

Thanks for sharing your journey! What are your thoughts/plans about increasing cardio or other activity to be in more of a deficit? Do you feel like your current lifestyle would allow you to workout more days per week, or does that not seem feasible?

That all makes sense. My job has a really inconsistent schedule which allows me to workout often in the late morning or early afternoon, but I often think how I would struggle more if I had an 8 to 5. This is just my 2 cents, as obviously I don't know anything about what you are doing at the gym while there, but I would say the major issues I often see for guys are 1) lack of frequency and consistency of going to the gym as already mentioned, and 2) lack of intensity and know how while there. For me the intensity aspect came from working with a virtual coach for a year or two, which allowed me to more clearly understand movements for muscle groups, better technique, programming, etc. After I stopped working with him, of course I carried that knowledge forward, and I also started going to CrossFit for up to half of my workouts which added a new kind of intensity and cardio, variety/novelty, and more of a social aspect compared with working out by myself most of the time.
My 1 year weight loss journey
A year ago today, I was ~250lbs. I was living a life of sloth, gluttony, and pleasure Fast forward to today, I’m 180lbs and bulking. My faith has been restored. Sloth, gluttony, and pleasure no longer consume my life and because of this change, I’m able to live out my life for God While I only joined the program in September ‘24, the first steps always start with you. It’s hard to start but once you do, you won’t ever want to stop. The weight loss journey is not something a weak minded man can handle. It takes a lot of self control and determination to exit a life of comfort for a life of righteousness

Awesome work!
Optimal sleep
What are yalls thoughts on how much sleep someone needs for optimal gains and health? Is being in bed eight hours enough?

I've been at 7 hours a night for many years, sometimes a little less, very rarely more. I just turned 40 and have great energy the majority of the time. Married for almost 11 years with 4 kids and a fairly busy/stressful job. Just my personal experience/two cents, of course.
