What challenges need this lens right now?
My obsession started when I was very small: trying to figure out the leverage points that could flip humanity into living more like other animals do. Why did we put them in circuses and scrape their homes bare for freeways and parking lots? I didn't see the coyotes or rabbits ruining other animals' futures. And yet they were clearly our relatives, as Jane Goodall showed. We were animals like any other. I spent many sleepless nights over it. Where did we go off track? How could we find our way again? What could I do? For that matter, what could anyone do? Nothing I thought of would work. Everything was connected to everything else. It would just make matters worse. But my father was an architect. He pointed out the geodesic domes sprouting along the 1970s California coastline. A set of simple rules of connection adding up to a strong, flexible structure. Like Tinkertoy. He also told me how the same kinds of simple rules, if properly aligned with human nature, could guide people to do what the architect intended. That idea stayed with me, and I set out to find the simple rules by which other organisms live—how they “create conditions conducive to life” without thinking so hard. In retrospect, possibly an overly ambitious career goal! But someone had to do something. Well I've broadened my passions over time, but my interest in life's deep patterns stuck around. They've been honed by four billion years of challenge, after all. From Hawaiian island plant biogeography to whale distributions in the Bering Sea to baboon hybridization and speciation in Ethiopia. How does life grow itself? How does it organize intelligence? How does it create conditions conducive to life for its descendants? At every scale, the same patterns: the simple rules of growing possibility despite uncertainty, change, and challenge. The same patterns organize our own lives—the many ways we live and think, design, and lead– as I've noticed in groups from Indigenous communities, to teams in companies,, nonprofits, and other institutions.

The PeaceMakers Challenge Creating Our Grandest Vision of Peace What is your Grandest Vision of Peace? A creative activity guide for schools, youth/service groups, families, and anyone interested. Presented by the PeaceMakers Circles Network Background: Most of the people, for thousands of years have lived simple contented lives. Then, for the last 150 years, wars, famines, pollution of air, water, soil and foods, and the depletion of species by over 75% have made life on our beautiful world nearly unbearable for vast amounts of our brothers and sisters. It's time to get CIVILized. Here’s the most effective and dramatic way to bring about a more enjoyable, pristine, and healthy life. Test it out for six weeks of as little as 15-20 minutes a day. See and feel how much your life and others have improved! Within a generation, there will be no more wars, pollution, and hunger. “We are crazy enough to think we can change the world, and daring enough to do it.” ~ Bill Graham. Peace and Justice for anyone and everywhere within a generation? Imagine that our home, our workplace, our neighborhood, and our schools, all focused on creating more Peace IN Everything, Everything AS Peace. Who even thinks it can happen? Over 90% of the people don't have their Vision of Peace written down! How do we expect to achieve a thriving life for all on our planet? We have created the PeaceMakers Circles Network, The PeaceMakers Miracle Method, The PeaceMakers Challenge, and The World Fest Organization that brings at least 90% reduction in violence, pure air and water, restoration of habitats for humanity and all our relations, while having fun. Imagine all humans having adequate amounts of nutritious foods and drinks, comfortable housing and Peace abounding! It can happen when 1% of the people start BEING PeaceMakers! This Challenge cross-pollinates in an intergenerational experience igniting everyone’s quest for peace and prosperity for all. And with the focus on Peace and Justice, it comes to life.
Introductions and Visions
Please introduce yourself––where are you and what brings you here? This is also the place to post your vision! And…what days and times work / work best for the Live Lab? 90 minutes weekly. We’ll record it in case you miss it.
