I have started to dabble in N8N and more in Make.com. I'm curious what you are trying to automate. Is it a process and can you break it down to a flowchart or do you have a standard operating procedure - that seems the best place to start with these tools and then you can build based on that. I am currently finishing a small build of extracting document information and logging it to a google sheet and then moving the file. I also have an n8n agent I created for content creation. I haven't had time to build out a lot more yet, but it's a VERY powerful set of tools if you can harness it for automation. I've started with the mundane of capturing documentation for those that aren't on an accounting software.
