@Melissa Freeman silhouettes are gorgeous and a lot if fun. You could absolutely do one of these! I would do the black foreground first (normally I do lights to darks) and let it dry first before painting in the sunset colors.maybe a mountain scene. Normally I would use resists to get the look I wanted but you might be able to do it without the resist too. I’ve seen others do it. I’m just not as good with controlling the color flow. You make me want to try though. Sunset painting is fun!

@Jane Harbison block printing can work on silk. I have an online fb friend who does it after painting the base layer. She uses stamps & regular acrylics mixed with fabric medium I think, rolls the paint onto a stamp and then block prints it over her base design. I want to try it with my lumiere colors. I already water them down in order to get sparkly effects on silk. I just don’t want them to be too thick because most of my work winds up flying the Summer Skies in the wind and if there are different weights on the silk, that is where it will begin tearing at some point. Along resistance lines first usually. I had a friend paint her banner birder entirely with gold resist on both sides and the first time it flew the entire border ripped off in the first hour because of the weight difference. Banners usually have a 3-5 year life due to wind & sun damage. It’s expected not to be permanent. But they really add to the ambiance of our medieval gatherings! The banners in this one, on the left side is the newest less than a year old & is red label dyes. The other is at least 7 years old and is dyna flow paints. I think we’ve had to trim that one at least once so far and it’s very brittle from sun exposure at this point. But it can still fly. It was 22x90” to begin with and has lost a couple feet of length at this point I think. The one on the left is probably about 36”x8ft long. The tails were added and painted separately from the main piece which is around 6-7 ft long on 36” wide 10mm silk habotai.

Sorry Missed Coffee Hour today
Organising an exciting workshop for you in April. My apologies.

I was sad too that I missed it. Wasn’t feeling well and slept most of the last couple days. Part of my painful back & nerves healing so slowly. I pushed probably doing several of the paintings. But I needed it too if that makes sense.
Who is keeping you company today?
Crumble is very affectionate today. He is all over my sewing and cutting out which makes recording interesting. He has appeared in a few of my sewing videos over the years.

@Christine Vabre yeah, I wish I could afford one of the more portable double strung harps. It’s a lovely instrument. Guitar is too hard on my fingers. I did get a mountain dulcimer to try out though. Like my double harp, it also has a cardboard soundbox. That cut out around $1k on the cost of my double strung harp. The levers are crazy pricy ($15 ea and my double has 44 strings- though I’ve still got 12 levers needed on the A & D strings for this to be fully levered. I probably won’t go that far though. It’s a beautiful instrument and relaxing to play. I hope your guitar is the same for you. Being able to make music is wonderful. I’ve only written down 2 of my scores for songs though. But I’ve written 3 or 4 originals and a lot if Filks (new words for other songs). My 2 scores are The Zoom Bards song and The Morrigan’s Call. I’m Irish & Scits ancestry do those mythologies interest me. I want to put my The Frig Prince poem to song too.

Thank you @Melissa Freeman for showing us how to not fear putting paint to silk. Here are a couple of my scraps I did in the workshop

@Melissa Freeman yeah. I’m in Las Vegas and my silk dries in a minute when it’s stretched on a frame. I have to get the salt down as I’m painting on larger pieces like the one I’m preparing for now. Though I’ve broken my big spaces up so I won’t need to paint very long at all time. 10-15 minutes is my max before the pain gets severe in my back from breaking it.
