The Shift Work Struggle: Power Engineers and Working Holiday Shifts!
Power Engineers! As many of us know all too well, the nature of our work often requires us to work shifts that can fall on weekends, nights, and, yes, even holidays. While we take pride in keeping our facility running 24/7/365, working on holidays can be challenging, missing out on time with family and friends during special occasions. It got me thinking about which Canadian holiday is the least favourite among us to work. Each holiday comes with its own vibe and the kind of festivities we might miss out on. Feel free to share your experiences, any particular reasons why you chose the holiday you did, or how you make the best of working on these special days. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and stories!

I’m indifferent, I’ve been working 8/6, 7/7 for pretty much most of my career and I recognized that it’s part of the sacrifice for working shift work and making the salary I make. my kids are teenagers now so we just work around it and celebrate when I’m home for whatever I missed while away at work. When they were younger they didn’t know the difference, we would just tell them it was whatever holiday (Easter Christmas etc)
Working nights/days
Just a question for everyone while I’m waiting to be bussed to site. What do you prefer working as a shift worker night shift or day shift? What’s your truck for flipping quickly into night shift mode and getting a good quality sleep? Myself I’m partial to nights, I can get more studying done at the panel, but also don’t mind day shift!

No problem @Robbie Wyness ! I know usually by night two I’m slowly flipped over, first night on the panel is always the worst, especially if it’s quiet! We’re on a 7 nights, 7 off, 7 days and 7 off as well. I tried to stay hydrated and quit drinking by 2:30-3:00am otherwise I’m waking up constantly. But all in all, I do prefer night shift as it gives more time for studying and competency training in whatever unit I’m working, just finished all of my panel training questions, so now the focus is crush second class papers!

@Mike Nguyen nights I find the first night a struggle towards about 3::30-4:00 is tough. After that it’s not too bad, then the last day is about the same when I have to flip back.
Have You Ever Written Two Power Engineering Exams In One Day? What Happened?
Power Engineers! I'd be interested in hearing how many of you have written two power engineering exams in one day and what your results were! I did this twice throughout my power engineering career with the following results: January 10, 2011 4A Power Engineering Exam: 77.3% 4B Power Engineering Exam: 71.3% Total Score: 77.3% + 71.3% = 148.6% August 2, 2011 3B1 Power Engineering Exam: 71.7% 3B2 Power Engineering Exam: 74% Total Score: 71.7% + 74% = 145.7% Feel free to drop your stories below. How did you get ready for it all? Any good tips for keeping composure when it feels like too much? I think it could be super helpful for anyone thinking about doing the same thing. My strategy was to study longer for the exam I figured I was weaker in (multiple months) and then review the other exam material 2 to 3 weeks prior to the exam date. Can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say and what you're total score was! Thanks @Arun Sharma for the idea for this post!

I’m definitely thinking about doing this as I’m working through 2A2, might do or attempt something similar to attempt 2A3 right after I pass 2A2.
Which 3rd class exam to tackle first
I am starting my 3rd class ticket, work has given me 18 months to finish. I am thinking of doing 3b2-3b1-3A1-3A2. In that order. I was going to try and get done in 6-8 months. Any thoughts?

@Mike Nguyen I wrote all four of mine in about 10 months I think? I just did them in order and got the hardest ones out of the way first.
