I question I posted elsewhere...
Hi. Dropping this here, just for the sake of discussion. A while back I posted an question about W E Fairbairn and bagua, on Dean Franco's podcast. This portion of the iterveiw is the answer... https://youtu.be/LKKXW0u96KU?t=1957

@Thomas Seidl I agree with this take on it. Bagua is a very diverse art that is meant to be individualized and then made applicable. You dont necessarily want to make what style you are doing obvious unless you are doing a demonstration or going into a technique. From my experience and training Bagua has always been more about body method than technique. That being said, there have been many attempts at standardizing techniques, like the 64 palm straight set, and this has seen varying degrees of success depending on the individual, teacher, and lineage.

@Joao Nascimento Welcome! I must have missed this when it was first posted. My apologies. I am half Portuguese from my mother's side. Her parents were born in the Azores. Great to have you here!

Bagua Piercing Fingers Drill?
Hi all, In the Bagua 1.8.26 live session, there was a drill where we twisted our waists, as if we were going to step forward with our fingers at shoulder height, piercing forward. My question is, should we only have horizontal energy there? For some reason, when I twist my waist with the finger pierce, I feel a slight upward angle, and I wonder if I should remove it. Thanks!

@Lester Leong good question. When it comes to basic piercing we want to connect out from the line of the sternum & shoulders and feel the option to point more upward or downward. You can think of the basic piercing drill as trying to find the most 'neutral' version of the movement that we can then adapt and change into other variations. So, if you notice that rising at the end try to keep the pierce extending out rather than up and look for possibly over rotating at the waist. The movement itself does not have to be very big to be an effective pierce.
