My membership side quest got a SIDE side quest! The original membership idea is still on the table AND it needs some more work. But a mini-idea came to me so I did that. And did a soft 1-email launch to my list. I've already filled two spots! While that's nothing in the scheme of monthly income, I'm excited to have proof of concept. I know none of y'all are probably tax pros, but I'm curious...do any of you live in Tennessee? I've been putting everything together for my membership, and I'm pretty sure it qualifies as a "live online course" under TN definitions rather than a "specified digital product," which would mean I don't have to collect sales tax for it. but wondered if anyone else is already in business in this state and knows for sure. My membership just gives them access to a private Discord coworking server, so not unlike access to a FB group, except anyone can be logged into the server and streaming at any time. The charge isn't for the software itself (their Discord membership is free unless they're paying Discord for something directly), so I don't think it falls under the state's requirement to charge for SaaS, either. I'm going to have to get a sales tax number eventually (once I start selling online courses) but up until now all the digital or physical products I've sold have been fulfilled by Etsy & Amazon, who do sales tax collection & remittance on sellers' behalf. ETA: Here's the link to my sales page. I'm excited to get this launched, so I set it up with Paypal payment only, and just checked "tax is included in price" so that I can clean it up manually later if I'm wrong about what classification it falls under. Done is better than perfect, right? 😅

Working on my sales page for a $1k course. All my OTHER courses are no refunds because it's a digital product - and you can totally consume it in a few hours or days. THIS is a signature course - BIG. (It's DONE so I'm gonna keep selling it!) And I'm wondering about the money-back thing. In all the years I've been selling it, I've only had one legitimate refund request so I'm THINKING of keeping it as a 7-day refund period. As a BUYER - how does a refund policy influence your decision to buy? As a BUYER - have you ever used a refund policy on a course?

For non-fiction authors. Brief look: Writing membership with a monthly zoom training to focus on one aspect of book writing. $49. Membership promise: Write your book - faster. With less start-stop. In 6 months. (It's fleshed out in my notebook and I know my people will hop on it I'm working on an email sequence (52) writing prompts to just... practice storytelling. I'm not sure if this should be IN this membership or as a standalone thing for $7 a month. The issue I've always had with prompts is that they are great for creativity and GENERAL writing skills but they don't create content THAT GOES IN THIS BOOK THAT YOU'RE WRITING. I don't want my members to get lost in "practice" that doesn't lead TO their book. And sometimes... you just need practice to write. Prompts help. I'm leaning that this should be it's own membership. Or its own offering in some form. Thoughts?
