Wild Magic Thoughts
When I first got to know the Wild Mage, back in the TSR days in Tome of Magic, the one thing I personally love with it, was the lack of control over the spell the mage cast. Every time, that the spell would be affected by caster level it could be either stronger, equal or weaker depending on a d20 roll. I have thought of a way to bring this back to the Sorcerer subclass, and would like to hear some feedback. The table I come up with is a copy of the table from Tome of Magic, the only difference is, that the level is replaced with spell slots, and if affects all spells that can be casted using a higher spell slots. When casting a spell tha fulfill this requirement, the caster roll a 1d20, which can be affected by luck points, potent, etc, but depending on the roll it is modified by a factor ranging from -4 to +4. The caster still use the chosen spell slot. So for instance, casting a 5th level fireball could turn out to deal between 7d6 to 13d6 fire damage, while a 1st level magic missile could have between 1 and 5 missiles, and a 5th level charm person could affect between 2 and 8 target, It also give some extra chances to roll on the Wild Surge table, and add random effects to the spell. So what do people think, does it sound cracy? Is it something you would use in your game, could it be twisted in a way to make it even better? For to me, a Wild Mage is a spellcaster, who doesn’t control the outcome, and that to be really shown in the casting of the spells.

Ability Score Increase. Increase your Dexterity or Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Perfect Placement. If you can use the Weapon Mastery property for a Ranged weapon, you can also apply either the Sap or the Slow property (your choice) when you hit a target, in addition to the normal Weapon Mastery property of the weapon. Penetrating Shots. You gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls you make with Ranged weapons.
