🌸 Day 3 – Writing with the Senses
Your readers should taste, smell, feel, and hear your story. 🌺 👂 👃 Why this matters: Sensory details pull readers into the world you’ve created — they turn flat words into living scenes. It brings them to the place or to an event that you've written. ✍️ Example: The coffee was bitter, thick on my tongue. 👅 Rain tapped against the window like impatient fingers. 🌧️ Prompt: Describe a place that feels like home using all five senses. Reflect: Which sense do you naturally lean on the most? Comment your answer to the prompt below and let's see what each other came up with!

@Dani Rosenblad James I will start tomorrow, unfortunately a bit sick and still needing to do a few other things.

@Dani Rosenblad James Bit late, but here it is. -------------------- Work day’s over, another chaotic drive back home. As I enter through the front door, I am greeted by the hum of machinery, bringing the comfortable warmth all across the house. Taking off my shoes, entering the living being hit with the obvious smell that one of the enclosures needs some cleansing attention. I see the culprit of said smell, coming out of his hiding hole, looking at what the ruckus is. I put on the coffeemaker and a few minutes later, the click of the machine hints at its successful completion of another pot of the glorious brew. I grab a cup, sit down on the couch and get settled for a little bit of R&R, before my younger brother comes home and the peaceful silence is no more. -------------------- Reflect: Which sense do you naturally lean on the most? I feel like sound is the one I lean most too. Or well, it seems to be the one that I can identify the most different things with. The flip side, my smell is definitely worst. I however always use all of my senses in conjunction. Trying to just sense the world around me as much as possible (Note that this does overload me in certain situations, because that natural filter that we learn as a kid, isnt working well.)
🔥 Day 2 – Show, Don’t Tell
Writing Challenge- Day 2 😁 Alright, everyone — let’s talk about one of the most powerful tools in a writer’s box. Why this matters: When you show, readers experience the story. When you tell, they observe it. 👀 “Show, don’t tell” makes your writing come alive. Example: ❌ She was nervous. ✅ Her fingers wouldn’t stop tracing the chipped mug handle. Prompt: Describe a moment of joy or heartbreak — but don’t name the emotion. ❤️ 💔 Let your reader feel it through what happens. 😌 Reflect: What small detail revealed the emotion best? Comment the answer to the prompt below. You can also add your reflection if you want!

@Dani Rosenblad James I can just add a redacted version of my own experience to this, which was a long road. Though, I could also write it in a more "instant" style 🤔Anyways: ---- And then that last text came. “I need some time to myself.”. The next few days passed slowly. Mentally racing, wondering. Did I do something wrong? Surely I didnt. What happened? And so on. Nights were even longer, the mind never still. The body couldn't relax. Continuously fidgeting and being tired. Time went on, the silence remained. The questioning turned into self-blame. Always kicking and gnawing away. Tiredness slowly turned into exhaustion. No energy to do anything. Mood had been low all throughout. Tears came in waves, but were always on the horizon. The mind continued its racing, creating new idea’s, what if this positive thing happened, what then. What if this negative thing happened, what then? And then the “holy shit I need help” what-if came. Driving down the highway. Seeing the protective railing. What if… I lost control right now? Would anyone care, I certainly didn't. Months later that same road, as well as the reflection in the mirror, looked a lot more beautiful. ---- Reflection: Emotions don't necessarily happen physically. There's a lot more going on internally, that can show physically, and these processes are hard to describe.
Day 1: Writer Within ✍️- Writing Challenge
Day 1 of 14 Writing Challenge ✍️ Today, we start simple — by reconnecting with the you behind the words. Why this matters: Your writing voice isn’t found by trying to sound like other authors — it’s uncovered by getting honest with yourself. The truest words often come from the messiest places. 🗣️ Example: “People say the ocean calms them. But for me, it’s chaos — the only place that matches the noise in my head.” (I thought of you, @Jeffrey Saathoff ) Prompt: Write a letter to your future writer self. 📝 Tell her/him what kind of stories you hope to tell and what you want your words to do in the world. 🗺️ Reflect: What emotion drives you to write? ✍️

Hello there stranger, How have you been this past while? I'm writing this letter, to tell you, you did well. You’ve always had this head, full of thoughts and ideas. Seeing something, thinking of all the other possibilities that might have happened, how people could have responded and what effect this might’ve had. The past, almost a year now, has been rough. You’ve had a lot to deal with and a lot of time to reconnect with yourself. Losing old habits, gaining new habits. The ability to prioritize and focus on what you find more important. Sure there’s times where you fall down, but that’s normal! Everyone has ups and downs and you know damn well the downs now, aren’t as bad as they’ve been at the start. You’ve had thoughts of starting to write, but never actually started. With this letter, today(5-11-2025) is that starting day. So write down all the thoughts, no matter how incoherent they sometimes get and get that novel going. Whether it ends up being fantasy, sci-fi, etc. It doesn't matter, because time will tell as you write it. The start is rough, but it gets easier with every step you take. So get those creative juices flowing again! Much love and godspeed, Your old self. ------------------------ So the emotion that drives me, is curiosity. To wonder and see what happens at the end of the process. Will my mind be satisfied or will it feel empowered and even more curious? Time will tell.

Hi hello. Its been a while since I last ventured onto skool. Ive been busy slowly getting out of my burnout. Now needing to prioritize some things like my coaching education (Currently adds a bit of stress, because I still need a extra client). While I'd started writing, I also dropped it again, as my energy and concentration ended up all over the place. But like Dani also mentioned, I started the world and character building, so its easy to spend a few minutes here and there to add to that. So the pace is very very slow. But still moving, a little bit at the time.
