The Wounded Empath Part 2
UNDERSTANDING - THE MECHANICS OF ENERGY DRAIN ▶️What's Actually Happening When You "Absorb" Other peoples energy. Let's talk about about the mechanics, because understanding what's happening is the first step to stopping it. Every human has an energetic field—call it an aura, a biofield, whatever language works for you. This energy field has boundaries, like your skin has boundaries. Most people's fields are relatively contained. They leak a little, sure, but they maintain basic integrity. Empaths have naturally porous fields. It's not a flaw—it's a feature. This porosity allows you to sense and feel what others are experiencing. It's how you "just know" things. It's why you can walk into a room and immediately sense the tension from an argument or disturbance that happened hours ago. But here's where it goes wrong: Most empaths never learned to control the porosity of their own field. Your field is like a screen door that's always open. Everything flows through—emotions, energy, thoughts, moods. You're not choosing to absorb these things. It's happening automatically, unconsciously, constantly. When you're around someone who's anxious, their anxiety literally enters your field. Your nervous system responds as if it's your anxiety. Your body produces the stress hormones. Your thoughts start racing. And because you didn't consciously take it on, you don't realize it's not yours. This is why you can feel fine one moment and devastated the next. It's not mood swings. It's energetic absorption. ▶️The Difference Between Empathy and Energetic Merging Here's the distinction most people miss: Empathy is the ability to understand and share another person's feelings while maintaining your own separate experience. You feel with them, not as them. Energetic merging is when your field and their field blend together. You lose track of where you end and they begin. You literally take on their emotional state as your own. Empathy is healthy. Merging is devastating. Most wounded empaths are actually merging, not empathizing. And nobody taught you the difference.

I have dealt with this frequently, I have honestly become a shut in to avoid this exact thing. I want to learn technique to keep my energy intact around others. I do okay for a bit then break down. At Thanksgiving I was good around family for an hour or so then ended up having to leave abruptly it got so bad. Also maybe it’s off topic but I have another question. There is tons of sadness and grief I am feeling today and I know it’s not mine. I am also alone. Is this collective? Is there a way you know of to lessen these effects on me so I can function better? I’ve been grounding and salt baths. Meditation is helping but as soon as I come out of it I feel waves of the sadness.
The Wounded Empath & What Comes Next
I know we are on many different points of our personal spiritual journey. Today I want to start this conversation about what I call the Wounded Empath. It's important to know you are not broken - you're just unprotected. Let's look at this closely - You've probably been told your whole life that you're "too sensitive," "too emotional," "too much." Maybe you believed it. Maybe you tried to toughen up, to care less, to build thicker skin. And it didn't work. But here's the truth that the mainstream world doesn't understand: Empathy is a spiritual gift, not a personality flaw. The problem isn't that you feel too much. The problem is that you were never taught how to manage the gift you were born with. It's like being given a high-performance sports car with no driving lessons—of course you're going to crash. Wounded empaths are people with a genuine energetic gift who were never taught: - How to tell their energy from someone else's - How to seal their field so they're not a sponge for everyone's emotional garbage - How to be compassionate without merging (with other’s energy) - How to use their gift consciously instead of being used by it You're not weak. You're not broken. You're just operating a Ferrari with no training manual. So in the coming weeks we'll unpack more of this. But for now I want those of you who are in this camp to look at the following areas and - give yourself some grace - simply look and see what the cost of living as a wounded empath has cost in these areas: (Dont' beat yourself up - just look and see) These areas: Relationships, Career, Health, Self Trust, Your Gift Please post here and share about it which I highly recommend. You can journal about it. Sharing here gives others the chance to see we are not alone. Your story told consciously and from a place of vulnerability and not victimhood will help others and help you. We're not judging. We're listening, we're healing, we're supporting.

@Michelle Kahelski yes I feel like I’ve lived many lifetimes up to this point and sooo happy to be on this side of that pain!! We are walking through the fire and pulling with us everyone who wants to leave it all behind! We are at the beginning of something new, And it feels amazing! I’m here for every bit of it, I decided to finally face it all and feel it. I appreciate you all walking with me and I am here to listen and hold space for each and everyone of you too! 🫂🤗🫶🏼

Hi, I’m Kendra, 49yo and I’m from rural North Louisiana. I currently live on Black Lake in Natchitoches Parish. I’ve recently went through a very difficult spiritual awakening that zapped me out of nowhere, turned my whole world upside down 😅😊 I grew up southern Baptist but haven’t practiced any type of religion since I was old enough to opt out of going. I’m not gonna lie, I am lost. I’m looking for answers and inspiration as everything I look into seems so wrong to me. I realize it is probably still a lot of limiting beliefs holding me back but even religion feels more uncomfortable to me than it used to. I’ve never been artistic nor had much creative energy although I’d love to find that within myself. I love to read and learn, or used to when I didn’t have trouble focusing. I guess my hobbies would be gardening, fishing and cooking. I am most content at home with a steaming cup of coffee and candlelight and my pup curled up beside me. I’m happy to meet everyone and learn about the sacred tradition of shamanism.

@Anthony Rios Thank you for this, It eases my worry a lot. I will absolutely check out the classroom tab and review your info there. 😊
What Do We Do Here?
What do we do in this community? Well, it's important to clarify that the community is for healers and for healers in training and for healers who don't know what to do with their healing gift or are afraid of their healing gift. Yes that's a lot! But we're all in different places on our spiritual path, on our evolution, from beginning to accept our healing gift, to Clarify the gift and then figure out what to do with it. I am teaching you the shaman's journey and how to use the shaman's journey to get these answers and much more on your evolution as a healer or healer in training or someone with an established healing practice.

I’d love to know if I posses any healing gifts to help others and If so to gain knowledge on how to use them. I have been on a healing journey of my own for two years now and have done miraculous things in transforming own my health through herbal remedies but I don’t know if that is anywhere in the realm of shamanism. I definately intend to do some reading on the subject with the books you recommended this weekend! This is a whole new idea I’ve been introduced to.
