Scoring on habits - have you customised yet?
Hey team! I'm really enjoying stage 5 but finding it hard to consistently have a "successful" day, I think this is because the habits aren't quite weighted correctly for me... I've got my Life Admin and Recovery scores pretty dialed, but not sure how to score the nutrition area. Have you customised any habits yet? If so, what scores are you giving your habits so it works for you? What areas are you absolutely nailing and what are you struggling with?

@Alan Moody I think that's the best part of this system - it can accommodate both ends of the spectrum!

@Jen Reid I think it depends on your goals. I lean more to the "be nice to myself" and "encouragement" side of things. So I wouldn't weight new habits super heavily since I know that I'm going to miss it sometimes. If you're using the template as is, I would adjust the target number since it's easier to access. If you're navigating weight vs target, you could adjust them so that either all things in the category have to be accomplished (depending on the case), or you could set it up so you can miss one of the other items that you see as a regular habit now, but not the one you're working on. Tracking food also seems like you could break it down into breakfast/lunch/dinner tracking instead of just one box - that avoids the "oops I forgot" overall that (for me) leads to discouragement. Instead, you can see if there's a meal that you tend to miss so you know what needs effort or attention. Hopefully that makes sense. (Edited to add: I realize I've contradicted what I said before. LOL)
HRV defined
HRV stands for Heart Rate Variability. Itโ€™s a physiological measure of the tiny differences in time between each heartbeat โ€” also called R-R intervals (the time between successive R-waves on an ECG). Without any tech at all You canโ€™t really measure HRV by hand, because it requires millisecond-level timing between beats. At most, you can take your resting pulse manually (count beats per minute), but that gives only heart rate โ€” not variability. Seems like an "edge" metric at most.

Itโ€™s a metric that can tie to stress levels and also restorative sleep levels. I donโ€™t stress about it (that would be counter intuitive! LOL) but it is still something that I can look at and make sure that, if itโ€™s out of range, I know to try to integrate some calming or stress relieving techniques to my day.

Not sure which watch you have, so my information is for the Apple Watch. I use the AutoSleep app alone with the Health app, and the AutoSleep app will give a summary of the HRV for your sleep period. The Apple Health app also tracks it from their watch, but you usually have to look for the section and pin it. That gives you an average by hour so you might be able to take the average for the hours you slept to get the same number.
What domain?
I've converted over my existing routines to fit in domains, which was pretty easy to do. (And actually, I figured out a formula so I can put my multiplier in my routines database. Off topic, but it makes adjustments much easier when I deactivate habits - I don't have to go into the formulas to edit.) My question is, I have a couple of routine items that have to do with things I'm learning: piano and foreign language practice. Any suggestions for what domain it might be good to tuck those under? Or do you handle that in a different way that will be unveiled to us in a future level?

Thank you! That just reminded me of the section in the weekly template that mentions scheduling other routine items - I can drop that button there. For my "focus habits" like these two and other key ones I was working on, I was previously working from a weekly view since my repetition goals weren't based on x days, but x times per week. (Basically, key habit as the "Name" and a checkbox column for each day of the week.) Since those are already set up, I think I may continue that for now with the addition of adding a line to copy the % of goal completed to the weekly page in the 'close cycle' button so that it surfaces at higher levels.
How are you using FMS?
Okay so I'm having trouble fitting the newer habits (in the later templates) into my day and closing cycles and I'm curious to see how others are handling this. First, Iโ€™m not sure when to end my day for habit tracking. A lot of habits (like โ€œin bed on timeโ€) can only be ticked off after theyโ€™re done, but I'm not going to come back to Notion after I've done by bedtime routine. How do you handle this? Do you just check things off the next morning? Second, Iโ€™ve been trying to do my weekly review on Monday mornings to close out Sunday, but I often run out of time before work. Also, by the time Monday morning rolls around, I feel like I'm late on planning my week already and am not prepared for what's coming. I find Iโ€™m more likely to do my review Sunday afternoon, but that messes with my weekly scores since Sunday isnโ€™t quite finished yet. So my main question is: how are you all fitting FMS into your day when cycle closures tend to happen late? Any routines that help make it smoother? Give me your best tips!!

I find myself giving myself points for just being in bed on time - I can't control my sleep, but the fact that I'm not still out on the couch or scrolling my phone "counts." This lets me check it off that night. (...and that reminds me, I've got about 5 minutes to get myself off the couch and into bed on time!)

I just thought this was funny... the month I take on this awesome system is when I feel the most disorganised LOL I've got a rollercoaster, a dumpster fire, a "who even am I?", a ghost town, and this week was a train wreck. I also missed a week which happened to influence said train wreck ๐Ÿคฃ Even though I am getting to Sunday, looking back at the week and going "I so could've done better," I'm still able to have a laugh with the images. It's a nice final touch with a bit of humour in there ๐Ÿซ  Also, not entirely sure what's been going on with my mastery scores.. think I've messed with them too much ๐Ÿ˜…

Your dumpster fire image reminds me of some of our internal "code" at work. Our team's been instructed to rate issues on a scale of "small trash can fire" to "dumpster fire floating down a flooded street" (I'm sure you've seen that meme - I found it and attached it. LOL.) If they rate it as a trash can fire, we just want them to let us know what's going on - the company owners try not to get involved unless we're just starting into dumpster fire stage. It's at least a small opportunity to laugh in a stressful situation. Hopefully the images for your weeks did the same for you. :)
