Harvest Basket
Tried my hand at another rib basket. Used a piece of bittersweet vine as the rim, seagrass and 1/4” flat reed for weavers. It was fun to let the basket evolve to what it wanted to be and not try to force a shape.

I love it and think it's so cool that you went out and found your own rim. It reminds me of a potato basket and I think brittany's idea to use it as a table center is perfect! I

Gorgeous! Great idea with the gourds!
June Challenge - Nothing But Scraps🧺
Happy Monday weavers! Time for a fun challenge. Your mission: Weave a basket using nothing but scrap reed. Dig into that tangle and use what you've got — odd lengths, leftover colors, random bits. Any of these patterns work beautifully with scraps: - Scrappy Basket (especially great for color scraps) - Bread Basket - The Garlic (perfect for round reed scraps) - Hanging Vase Baskets - Tobacco Tray - Candle Lantern Or design your own. There are no rules here — just use what's already lying about, threatening to engulf you like a hydra.😂 When you're done, come back and post a photo. Let's see what you make.

The first picture is what I’m made with some of my scraps but I also wanted to show some of the other ways I use scraps.. I mostly make wall hangers but I also use scraps as layovers or to embroider a basket. I also love the idea of make trivets or tension trays with scraps.
Question? Thinking outside the basket
What tool do you reach for that isn't officially a basket-weaving tool?

A small 3.5 trimming plane. Super cute and helpful with shaving down reed.

@Brittany Stanton it is a very adorable woodworker plane. Another basketweaver had one in a class I was taking and I had to get one..
The Adirondack Pack Basket
Putting this here to give me a push to start on my Adirondack pack basket. These aren’t mine, they are pics from a seasoned weaver (Jill Choate). I have her pattern kit for one of these packs in orange, purple and teal. Will keep you posted. I’m nervous.

I'm excited to see the finished project too! But totally understand the hardships of juggling it all.

She looks amazing to me! I tend to find Basketry patterns very hard to follow. That's why I love textile indies more detailed directions and videos. They make every basket I try so much easier. I hope that you can get to the bottom of what is going wrong with the pattern..Could you reach out to the basket pattern maker? But I'm excited to see how beautiful it is.
Poll: Natural vs. Dyed?
Do you prefer working with natural or dyed basketry materials? A. Natural all the way for me! B. Dyed - I love color, the more saturated the better. C. A mix, but I prefer more muted, nature-inspired color. D. It depends on the project. Don't pin me down😋 This poll is for fun - but it will also tell us what to focus on, so the more people that chime in, the better. Waffling and paragraphs of explanation are welcome - we love verbal processing around here🤔💬💬💬

D! It depends on the day and my mood. But I love playing with fun bold colors like J Choate when the baskets are primarily for me. When I'm making them for others or to sell I tend to stick to natural tones. I feel like the natural tones are more timeless because I tend to fall in and out of love with certain colors too.
