What a Former Google Employee Learned About Land Investing
Most people hear about land investing and imagine buying a property for $1,000 and selling it for $4,000. What they don't see are - The months of negative P&Ls, - The operational expenses - The inventory that sits longer than expected - The tough decisions that come with building a real business. In this episode, @Eric Turnwald shares what it's really like going from Google and Reddit into the land business, leaving a stable tech career, building a company with his husband, managing a growing team, and learning some hard lessons about cash flow, leadership, and scaling. This conversation is refreshingly honest. No hype. No shortcuts. If you're in the middle of the ups and downs of building a land business, this episode is for you. 🎙️ Listen now and join the conversation. 👉 Don’t just scroll. Level up. Such a good show @Dave Denniston - very cool seeing the perspective of someone coming from Big Tech. I think one skill previously that has helped me, would be marketing (mainly on the direct mail acq side and creating a trust worthy presence online for sellers).

Mmmmm. honestly that’s a tough one… i don’t think it’s any single one. They kind of all have to work together, IMO… But if i had to pick the thing underneath all of them… it’s helping people tie the change to relief from some kind of pain, because we run from pain way faster than we run toward something we want. Change is genuinely hard for me too. I feel it in my own life all the time… and what flips it for me isn’t being told/shown to change, it’s when I can connect the change to something that takes a pain away… and “pain” is of course different for everyone. but when someone can actually feel that the shift makes their day-to-day better, or takes away the thing they’ve been dreading… or that they fear, that’s when they lean in I think.

Leading during boring and Repetitive season
Most people don’t quit when things are hard… They quit when things get boring. No big wins. No excitement. Just the same work every day. In land investing, this is where growth actually happens: • Sending offers • Following up • Reviewing deals • Training your team It feels repetitive… but it’s working. — Strong leaders don’t chase motivation. They stick to the process. Because boring = scalable. If things feel slow right now… You’re probably closer than you think. Keep going.
