Daily CSCS Question #11
A strength coach notices that an athlete performs well in training but consistently underperforms during competition. The athlete reports feeling overly tense and “thinking too much” during events. Which strategy would be MOST appropriate to improve performance in competition? Answer in the poll, then explain your rationale below. I’ll follow up with my breakdown after enough people have responded. From Chapters 8: Psychology of Athletic Preparation and Performance

Since the athlete is performing well in practices, this shows they possess the physical skills to perform well in competition. Their underperformance in competition is not the result of a lack of motivation or external support necessarily. So the strategy that is the most appropriate to help this athlete is relaxation techniques and arousal control to help them feel less tense.
Daily CSCS Question #9
A strength coach programs the following in-season superset for collegiate soccer athletes: - A1: Back squat — 4 × 4 @ 87.5% 1RM - A2: 30-m sprints — 1 rep max effort (timed) - Rest: 2–3 minutes between paired sets After several weeks, sprint times progressively worsen across the session, while squat performance remains stable. The coach wants to maintain maximal strength adaptations without sacrificing sprint quality. Which adjustment is MOST appropriate? Answer in the poll, then explain your rationale below. I’ll follow up with my breakdown after enough people have responded. From Chapters 17 and 19

when it comes to sequencing principles, sprints are a power movement and should come before strength movements. overall, there should just be more recovery time between max effort movements like heavy back squat and sprinting, especially if the coach wants to see improvement in both

Hi everyone! My name is Katherine, and I am currently in the MS Kinesiology Program at PLNU. I’m also a pole vaulter on the PLNU Track and Field Team, and collegiate athletics is where I’ve gained the most firsthand experience in strength and conditioning. As far as career aspirations, I hope to coach youth track and field athletes and contribute to a high school strength and conditioning program. I am hoping to take (and pass, thanks to Dr. Goodin) the CSCS exam this May. I am super blessed to train at the coolest and prettiest track and weight room in the world, and I don't think anywhere will top this place.

CSCS Practice Question #5
During the lowering phase of a barbell bench press, which muscle action best describes the role of the pectoralis major? Answer in the poll, then explain your rationale below in the comments! I'll follow up with my breakdown of the question after enough people have responded. From Chapter 2: Biomechanics of Resistance Exercise

Eccentric because of the pectoralis major lengthening, and acting as the agonist because it is responsible for horizontal adduction of the shoulder. Concentrically, the pectoralis major would move the bar upward, but eccentrically, it controls the bar downward.
CSCS Practice Question #6
A maximal effort lasting 8 seconds is repeated several times with 90-second rest intervals. Which energy system is the primary contributor during the rest period? Answer in the poll, then explain your rationale below in the comments. I’ll follow up with my breakdown after enough people have responded. From Chapter 3: Bioenergetics of Exercise and Training

During maximal effort, the body is relying on the ATP-PCr system for energy. During rest, the body works to restore ATP and PCr stores, primarily due to the oxidative system which uses oxygen to restore ATP and PCr
