A sensory exercise for grounding
I’ve been revisiting an exercise my witchy mentor shared with me back in 2022 that’s been helping me feel more grounded. It’s a five-day rotation where you focus on one sense each day, processing everything primarily through that sense. I’d forgotten about it until I watched a behind-the-scenes clip on YouTube about the movie *Tootsie*, which got me thinking about how we perceive the world through our senses. Lately, I’ve been returning to mindfulness basics—breath and sensory awareness—and this exercise seems to heighten my extrasensory perceptions too. For me, they show up mostly through sight and sound, but taste is strongly tied to my emotions. My body connects flavors with energy and feeling; for example, a friend’s love tastes like honeydew melon, while anger tastes like gall—or, in Gen X terms, “vurps” (vomit-burps). Gross, I know. I also watched a video by Stefan Burns, the “woowoo” geophysicist, about how the solar maximum has peaked and will settle down through 2029. According to my Astro Future app, my earth element is weak right now, leaving me disconnected from my Capricorn moon. With most planets opposing my sun sign, deep, underground energy is surfacing in me, manifesting as a kind of flatline state. Reconnecting with my body’s sensations feels like the path back to terra firma. I included a link to an article about the five senses. 15 Human Senses: Beyond the Traditional Five | Complete Guide - Ascension Pulse
