📣 Community updates
Hey everyone, just a quick update to let you know about some exciting changes happening to the group. Moving forward, there will be no free tier for this group. Everyone here is grandfathered in. Previously the tiers were: - Free - Standard (community only) - $12/m - Premium (most courses and member events) - $49/m - VIP (all courses and monthly 1:1) Now the tiers are: - $5 - Standard (community only) - $12/m - Premium (most courses and member events) - $49/m - VIP (all courses and monthly 1:1) New people will pay $5/month to access the community. This should help increase the quality of the community significantly. Anyone who previously was on the free Standard tier will remain on the Standard tier and continue to have access to this group. This only affects new people joining, who will now have to pay $5/month for Standard. I have some more exciting updates to share with you next week about a brand new member event/competition format, so look out for more info on that 👀

Thanks so much for making me a grandfather yet again! LOL! I haven't been online in a bit as I am moving shortly (I just bought a new house), and will have an actual room dedicated to being a "true" studio space! Thanks again, and I'll be back soon!

@Terry Gibson Congratulations! I know the feeling, and it's wonderful...because you get to give them back when you get tired!
General age consensus of Mastering.com members
Hey guys, I just completed the "Music Production For Beginners" course and something I noticed was how he kept mentioning "A lifetime learning journey" making me wonder if at 52 years old, I'm kind of in the minority of members who are mostly young people here just starting out in the recording industry. A little bit about me. Back in 1991 I went to I.A.R. (Institute of Audio Research) a now defunct Audio Engineering trade school here in NYC. Being about 18 at the time I was too busy goofing off with friends to put in the serious effort to actually study hard and retain the information I was being taught, thinking I would just "wing it" and learn as I went along, some of which I did during my time interning at a professional music studio in Manhattan. However I didn't stay in the industry and went on to work a series of soul crushing office and manual labor jobs instead because they paid better and were more steady work. During I've always maintained a deep interest in Music making, teaching myself to play Bass guitar and playing in several local bands just for the love of the game. Later on I learned a little piano/keyboard but never really bothered to learn music theory because the internet as it exists today and all the wonderful courses available, such as those on Mastering.com weren't available back then. Now I am medically disabled and have a lot of free time and have decided to really put the effort into learning as much as I can about recording/mixing/mastering and creating music with the small digital home studio I put together. I was wondering what the general age consensus of the other members was and maybe a few of your own personal stories as to why you joined the site.

I am 65. I am just starting my "journey" along the long and winding road of music production. I'm really excited to see where it takes me, I'm a life long learner!

Introduction
Hello to all, I am a new member and am very excited to be part of this group. I am 69 years old and have been play music all my life. Mostly local bands as well as every band though my 12 years of school. I have always been interested in mixing and editing music ever since my first studio experience some 40 years ago. Now That I have reached retirement age I thought now or never.

gain stage (101 course)
I use ablethon no logic, to normalize the gain i need just to drop down the gain of each track individually at -10db ?

Just a quick question on this topic if I may. When talking about peaking, are you talking about peaking on the individual tracks or the peak meter on the master track?

@Matteo Marcellino Thanks for the answer to that. I actually was wondering about that .
Ear Doctor Visit
So I just visited the Ear Doctor on SoundGym and got these high frequency test results. From a mixing and mastering perspective, should these results be of concern?

It did try it once again and got the same results. .DMG file opened the same window with that I sent in the screenshot. I decided to go with another free analyzer called Blue Cat. Thanks again for all your help, it is truly appreciated.

@Forever Simon No apologies needed Simon. You were trying to help. I copied both the VST as well as the VST3 folders to the HD library folders. I also copied the Component folder to the HD library folder for components as per the instruction for installation. Also, I did install another free spectrum analyzer named Blue Cat.
