Stress, Cortisol, Sleep, Alcohol.. oh boy!
Lately I’ve been seeing the same pattern over and over with people in here… High stress Poor sleep Alcohol on the weekends Low energy Harder fat loss Mood swings No motivation to train Feeling wired but tired None of those things are random. They’re all connected through your nervous system and cortisol. When stress stays high, cortisol stays high. When cortisol stays high, your body has a hard time recovering. When recovery is off, sleep gets worse. When sleep gets worse, cravings go up. When cravings go up, alcohol and sugar usually go up. And when alcohol goes up… sleep gets even worse. It becomes a cycle that keeps your body stuck. And this is the part people don’t realize… Alcohol might help you fall asleep, but it destroys sleep quality. You don’t get into deep sleep the same. You don’t recover the same. Your heart rate stays higher. Your nervous system stays more stimulated. Your cortisol stays elevated longer. So you wake up tired, drink more caffeine, feel more stressed, sleep worse the next night, and the cycle keeps going. This is why some of you feel like your body just won’t respond right now even when you’re trying. It’s not always about food or workouts. Sometimes your system is just stuck in survival mode.
