@Paulo Munera I am focusing on viable dry farming species with no actual rain for all of summer and just getting started turning my garden into a nursery to plant out a syntropic system. I am propagating my perennials and saving my locally adapted seeds. I am not sure if this is surprising, but calla lily spreads very well on its own for me with little care so I recommend it for standing shade and as a green mulch.

@Jessica Witt frost hardy plants grow right through the winter with no issue at all. It’s really the dry hot summer that is the hardest to manage, trying to conserve water. Where I do not irrigate regularly I plant only some of each plant in different areas because I expect high mortality. I do this mostly for food producing and cooler preferring perennial transplants. I do get surprised where some plants survive in spots I wouldn’t expect; I planted foxgloves along the same side of the house and the only one to survive was the most sun exposed. I think the reason was because I had so little faith in it that I trimmed it back the most and it was entirely protected by a mint canopy. So, in short, my main growing season is winter to spring, the rest of the year is either enjoy what survives or put in more effort.

@Jessica Witt I see you make the most of what you have access to. I am looking for cost effective tips to expand my limited garden space onto concrete patio areas in containers
