What is your comfort level with style?
If you didn't grow up with a need to dress nice on a regular basis, I may feel awkward to put on a suit even for a special occasion. This was me until family recently. I own a business I worked by myself from home since My early college days and I'm not particularly social so there was no need to dress up. Staring law school forced me I to being social and compelled me to dress appropriately for the field. Despite getting well-fitted suits that I know look nice, I still feel a bit awkward especially in the trousers. The thin light material often feels "insufficient" (compared to the denim I normally wear) I can say I've gotten used to the feel, and despite a good fit, the material still feels somewhat alien. I suppose with enough exposure it will get more and more familiar. All that being said, the highest level of classy I would say is "comfortable" (in mind not physically) is nice jeans, dress shirts and sport jacket. What about you?

I think in some cases you need to play to the crowd you have while staying true to yourself. Being blue collar myself, it was jeans, hoodies, t-shirts and work boots or cowboy boots. But now that I'm older I find myself wearing more formal clothes and I enjoy it. If you're uncomfortable with dress slacks and white button downs try other combinations. I have button downs and pearl snap shirts that I pair with Wrangler jeans in different colours other than the standard blue denim. I'll pair this up with a sport coat or usually a leather trucker jacket, that way I'm better dressed than most but not over the top.
I'm not sure what I'm looking for...need a bit of help.
I am trying to elevate my pants from causal to, well, elevated causal. I am looking for something in between dress slacks and jeans. I don't want something as restrictive and heavy as jeans, yet I don't want something as dressy as suit pants / dress slacks. I'm trying to find something that can be worn everyday, in a causal or dress-causal setting. A pant that can dress up a t-shirt, allows for ease of movement and doesn't dirty easily. I have seen all these "performance" pants, but they all feel like windbreaker material and that's not what I'm going for, nor am I looking for simply khaki's. This is why I say, I'm not sure what I'm looking for, only from what I am trying to stay away. Does any one have any suggestions? Have you run into this yourself? Feel free to ask more questions if needed. Thanks, appreciate all of you!

I would say chinos but Levi also has a pant cut like jeans in a light tan material. I bought them a long time ago and they go well with a white button down or t shirt.
Work environment
Here's something I've wondered about. What is your work environment? How does the atmosphere you're in and/or the work you do affect how you dress? When many people hear "dress well," they automatically think "dress up," which means a suit. However, that's not the case. For @Brian McGuire , wearing a suit can be an important part of the image he needs to send to his clients. For @Richard Pollock , wearing a suit not only wouldn't make sense, it could be unsafe. But there's no doubt he dresses WELL every day. For some of us, the atmosphere we're in affects how we present ourselves. For me, a well fitted OCBD and chinos, paired with well polished shoes, still has me a step above (at least) many of the people around me in the office. For me, that's good enough. Wearing a suit would be nice, but I would stick out like a sore thumb. What's your environment and how do you fit in, yet stand out?

At the end of the day you need to play to the audience you have. I wear a uniform when working but I change into cowboy boots, jeans and either a button down shirt or polo.

I'd go with the first option.
Leather Jackets, Leather Boots
(Added photos as examples) Opening up a discussion on leather jackets. I’ve owned a couple over the years, and it’s time to add one to my wardrobe angain. Apparently if I’m fiftyish, I can rock a bomber. But at 60, a leather blazer is the thing. So bomber or blazer; that’s my first quandary. The second is color and material. I have black boots and brown boots, and I’ve heard I should match leathers. So suede is out then? And I have to decide if I’d rather wear my black boots or brown boots with a leather jacket, and choose accordingly? Life was so much simpler 30 years ago! Thanks gents!

A bomber jacket is a timeless design compared to the leather blazer. You could also try a leather trucker jacket too
