NEW YT VID - 3PM UK TIME
Iโ€™ve noticed most of you have the same problem that you canโ€™t seem to fix at the moment. Range/Distance control. Iโ€™ve got an extremely detailed video coming out in a few hours which should solve a lot of the issues for you guys.

Good work bro and well done for getting in there. The biggest error that stands out to me is your range after throwing the shots. You throw some nice straight but then fall in and get tied up. Work on your positioning after throwing the shots. The work isnโ€™t done after landing a combo, you enter the next phase by controlling the distance and sensibly defending any counters whilst getting ready to attack again. If you do can switch your mentality to โ€œwhatโ€™s nextโ€ instead of โ€œIโ€™ve hit him and thats itโ€ you will become a nightmare for anyone.

@Emanuele Amarone No exercises. Itโ€™s a mindset shift. Train on the bag and shadow box as you usually would, but now throw EVERY shot with the assumption that youโ€™re going to fall in or that youโ€™re going to get hit back. We need to FORCE you to be cautious after throwing your shots.

Bro this is so good as always! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ I think the reason your distance management isnโ€™t where it needs to be is for the same reason as everybody elseโ€™s. The way youโ€™re training/shadowboxing right is installing some subconscious bad habits. Let me explain: Fundamentally all of your shots are clean as hell. The mentality behind them is a bit messy at the moment. Letโ€™s take 0:26 as an example. You throwing an uppercut and then a jab right after. In a real scenario your jab wouldnโ€™t have even been able to extend like that if you were truly in uppercut territory (close range). You need to start shadowboxing as if you were truly fighting an opponent. Set your self some rules from round to round. Round 1: close range - here youโ€™d stick to close range shots like hooks and uppercuts. Again, you wouldnโ€™t have the space to extend your arms for jabs. Round 2: long range - youโ€™d stick to your long shots like a jab and a cross. Youโ€™d be way too far out to even land an uppercut. Round 3: starting the combo in close range, stepping back and finishing at long / starting the combo in long range, getting your hands up and closing the gap and finishing the combo in close range. This will add realism to your training and will stop you from throwing any punch at any range and becoming lazy on distance management. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ
ONLINE COACHING
Hi everyone hope youโ€™re all good and your training is going well. Iโ€™ve had a lot of enquiries about online 1 to 1 coaching so here it is. As I canโ€™t be there with you in person I truly believe this is the next fastest way for you to improve. I can pick apart any flaws youโ€™re making and install new good habits that you most likely wonโ€™t learn in your busy boxing gym. This will be held over a zoom call and the sessions will be 60 minute long. Message me for more information and weโ€™ll get started as soon as youโ€™re ready! - Atiko ๐ŸฅŠ

Pads footage
Hi Atiko, I'm posting some videos of me doing pads. I know I still have to improve my technique, leg movements and head movements. I'd be very happy if you could give me some advice on what to work on based on the video.

Wow. Very sharp. How many fights have you had? The only 2 things I can point out from these videos are: 1. Make sure when youโ€™re doing an angle change like pivot after throwing your shot, you actually finish the shot first. There was a couple of times where youโ€™d throw a lead body hook or a right uppercut on one leg because you were already focussing on pivoting away. Itโ€™d be more optimal to finish throwing with both feet planted and then move off. 2. At times when you open up to throw a combo your chin comes ever so slightly high. Work on keeping it dipped for the whole combo. Your chin and posture looks really good when youโ€™re moving around, and even for most of the single shots you throw, there was just a couple times it would come high when throwing a combo. You donโ€™t want to fight someone who trades combos with you and then get caught with something silly because of this. Other than that, look absolutely unreal, keep it up. If you need anything else or have any questions on this be sure to let me know.

@Emanuele Amarone The patience could be due to nerves holding you back assuming youโ€™re going to get counter punched, which is actually somewhat of a good mentality, it shows youโ€™re cautious and donโ€™t want to get hit, however it wonโ€™t allow you to commit to them combos you want to be throwing. This is where feints come into play. Feinting is the safest way to see what your opponents next move is. If I feint a jab against fighter A, I might see heโ€™s looking to counter straight away, then I can throw that shot he was looking to counter and then act accordingly by countering his counter. If I feint a jab against fighter B, he might go straight into a high guard or even take a step back, then I would take a step forward to get him closer to the ropes/corner, or throw my combos as I can see could see from my previous feint he didnโ€™t look like a threat, he was looking to stay there and defend. In conclusion - feints are a safe way to gauge if youโ€™ll be able to commit to a combo without being hit. Combo punching range is usually mid range and close range, how id turn this into a drill is go on the bag or shadow box, stay at long range where youre currently comfortable throwing your jabs and straights, find a way to close the gap with jabs and then just fully commit to a combination. Weโ€™re trying to get you comfortable with closing the gap behind a jab to put you in the best position to throw the combos. Iโ€™m planning on making a whole video on this soon actually. Finally, you have to change your mentality slightly. You can not swim without getting wet! Understand that even in an attempt to close the gap and throw your combos, you may still get hit. As soon as you can become comfortable enough with this youโ€™ll have a lot more confidence to throw combos.
