What is your biggest pain point...?
As I work to finish the first stage of our classroom I am trying to collect some info from all the parents here about your biggest pain points over the years in developing your child/athlete. Drop a note below with the one thing causing you the most stress or creating the biggest wedge between you and your child.

From my experience as a athlete and witnessing other athletes go through similar processes, one of the biggest problems is to know what to do with coach communications and how to handle rejection, a lot of people talk about it but very few actually help athletes with understanding how to better communicate.

@Anthony Patierno Completely agree, however that is something that took quite a while to learn and I wish was something a coach directed me to rather than having to ruin some relationships with coaches cause we (myself and many other athletes I have talked to) didn’t know what we were doing.
What is your North Star?
Can you easily identify what is guiding your daily thoughts, words and actions? I’m curious what is actually shaping the identities of the people in our community right now.

My personal North Star is my convictions to do what is called of me by my faith. Everything I do is rooted in my personal beliefs of what I ought to do, so for me that is a driving force to better find my identity.
Everybody crashes out sometimes…
Drop your worst crash out moment as a coach, parent or player below and let’s dive deep into what was really going on. Judgement makes a crash out wasted but curiosity makes it a powerful learning experience. Let’s see what we can learn here…

I had my moment earlier this season with my goalkeeper coach. We were doing a close quarters drill and I told him that I do not think this drill will be helpful or good but he ignored me and told me to do it so I did. Got through most of the reps but the last one I go out to challenge and he nails me in the side of the head with the ball knocking me to the ground. That exact moment I realized I got another concussion, and was extremely pissed and as soon as he approached me while I was laying on the ground I cussed me out, but I was stuck on the ground and couldn’t move. After probably 30 seconds I was able to move again and I ended up pacing and yelling, then I tried to return to training and was extremely angry but the trainer prevented me from doing so. I know now it is just an accident and can sometimes happen, but in the moment I was so furious, because I knew immediately it would take me out for quite a few weeks.
Athletes don’t get to go on vacations :)
Let me be clear here, I am not saying you shouldn’t ever take a break or go on a trip with your family. What I am saying is…while you are at Disney, or wherever you go, you are still an athlete. If you want to outperform others, you will need to find ways to get your training in even when you are on “vacation”. For me this is where Identity is crucial. If you actually identify as an athlete, then everywhere you go and everything you do, is done through the lens of a high performing athlete. Where do we all stand on this one…I am curious?

Completely agree, there is really no time to not be working on yourself, so even if you are having downtime training is still very important.

@Anthony Patierno Right now most of what I would consider my downtime I spend babysitting my nieces and nephew when they are in town, but otherwise do my own film studies.
Is there anything quite like…?
Sliding on cold wet ground after netting a game winning banger on a rainy Monday training session? What do you think…?
