Book Review - The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
Hey all! Jorie and I have been doing book reviews with each other every week for quite a while and we wanted to let you in on the party. We are starting The Let Them Theory this week. Here’s how this works. We read a chapter a week and post what we learned or found interesting and if there’s anything we are going to try and incorporate. It doesn’t matter when you post. Just use this thread and put the chapter number first and then your thoughts. I love this format. Not only do you learn from the book, but you also get to see everyone else’s thoughts and ideas. It’s a win win! When we get close to the end, I will post a poll for the next book!

@Carrie McFarland I agree. I have been trying to not do that to my daughters. However I think it’s a mixed message because I know they see me not modeling for myself the care attention that I give to their needs

Chapter 2- I am struck by the idea of fear as the reason behind the need for control and also how much more accepting I am of this premise than I was the last time I read this book. 2) Also a lot of me toos to what you both wrote above- particularly the fear of not being liked or being excluded.
Lab Review
Let's wrap up the February experiment on B Minus work! I would love to hear your takeaways.

My overall takeaway is that even though I think I am holding up the sky- I am not. If I don’t do something perfectly. It still gets done. If I don’t say something perfectly, people still know I am smart and worthwhile. I am still working on this but- the stakes are not as high as they are in my head.

Really any of the three would be useful!
The importance of a regulated nervous system
I'm realizing more and more the importance of our nervous system when it comes to high performance. When your nervous system is activated by something, it's very important to finish the stress cycle instead of just cognitively pushing through. When you don't, this makes your nervous system more and more sensitive to triggers (which is generally ineffective). Sometime it's not possible to do it in the moment, but you can set aside time to take care of this. My favorite stress cycle finishing techniques are: 4-7-8 breathing Vibration Plate Punching bag Walking What are your thoughts about this? Do you have a favorite way to finish the stress cycle?

No- usually I do a bar method video in my basement while answering emails and doing laundry.

Bar method is a form of exercise based on ballet moves. I really enjoy it. Since Covid I have done it on demand- the recorded videos rather than going to a studio. The convenience is great but it also ensures that I do two or three other things while exercising!

Partially afraid that I didn’t know eveything- but okay in that the articles were mostly saying the same things over and over and I am en expert on this issue so don’t need all the review!

Yes, nothing happened. I still wrote a great statement for my senator. I can trust myself.
