Book Review - The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
Hey all! Jorie and I have been doing book reviews with each other every week for quite a while and we wanted to let you in on the party. We are starting The Let Them Theory this week. Here’s how this works. We read a chapter a week and post what we learned or found interesting and if there’s anything we are going to try and incorporate. It doesn’t matter when you post. Just use this thread and put the chapter number first and then your thoughts. I love this format. Not only do you learn from the book, but you also get to see everyone else’s thoughts and ideas. It’s a win win! When we get close to the end, I will post a poll for the next book!

Chapter 1 - 1) I saw myself in her story about her son’s prom and how many times I have taken control when I wasn’t asked to with my kids, with my husband and every other area of my life. 2) I got triggered by someone complaining last night when I could have just let her complain. 3) “so much time and energy is wasted on forcing other people to match our expectations” - big aha.

Chapter 2 - 1) Releasing myself from the control I never had in the first place is the goal. 2) the urge to control comes from fear of exclusion, not being liked or things going wrong. 3) I reclaim power by choosing how to respond. 4) let me create the life, relationships and connections I want.

@Jorie Feldman that is really good awareness. Congratulations!
The importance of a regulated nervous system
I'm realizing more and more the importance of our nervous system when it comes to high performance. When your nervous system is activated by something, it's very important to finish the stress cycle instead of just cognitively pushing through. When you don't, this makes your nervous system more and more sensitive to triggers (which is generally ineffective). Sometime it's not possible to do it in the moment, but you can set aside time to take care of this. My favorite stress cycle finishing techniques are: 4-7-8 breathing Vibration Plate Punching bag Walking What are your thoughts about this? Do you have a favorite way to finish the stress cycle?

@Jorie Feldman what was the result? Do you now have evidence that you don’t have to read every single thing and that you can trust yourself in this area?
