the real me
Well I've decided I think this is the time that I should say this to you all first I want to say I really appreciate each and every one of you and for having this group opened up I've mentioned this group to my therapist and told her how great I feel being a part of this group. So I've decided to share with you all who I really am. I served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps and fought in the first prison Gulf War 1991 both Operation Desert Shield and storm. Upon returning my health has been deeply impacted from that war and I don't know how I'm still standing right now. On the psychological side I have been doing therapy for at least 23 years I depend on my therapy I need my therapy as you can possibly imagine how a war can deeply impact a human being. Upon relocating to this new area but 9 months ago I have been literally been going through hell. Won't get into the specifics but it has been one tribulation and trial one after the keep in mind out of everything that life has thrown at me I have conquered in one fashion or another I have been a survivor. And though there were times that if I didn't have my great therapist I have now I probably wouldn't be sitting here speaking to you and that is the 100% truth. I just felt I needed to share this with you all because you've seen possibly one maybe more than one side of me by what I've been posting and what I have said and I apologize if I may have come harsh to anyone or said something out of fashion due to the immense pain that I am experiencing now in my life with no backup from my medical team. I know you can only imagine what I am going through or what a combat veteran goes through and I know you will never really fully understand how I feel and how other combat veterans are feeling. Leslie with my PTSD I have decided that I may not pursue a career in music production due to the fact that with Social Security I am labeled unemployable due to my PTSD and I had to take a serious look at my future and possibly I could be sitting myself up for failure. Yes it was something that I deeply and really wanted to accomplish and do but I really had to take a real look at it and I could be possibly setting myself up for failure if I went this path with you not knowing the specifics if you did you probably agree with me. Bottom Line music is saving my life right now and after the bad incident with the guitar though I am receiving and will be still receiving some pretty awesome gear I feel that that is in the past now so I can continue the enjoyment and love and passion for music and I am thankful that I am able to share what I see in here and will continue to do that and I thank you all deeply I love you all us musicians share that Bond that shouldn't be broken so I thank you for your time I hope I didn't bore you and be waiting for my videos of my new amp today and let's rock on thank you all have a good one.

Hey @Apache Chief Thank you for your post, and for sharing your true self. My nextdoor neighbor and friend is a veteran and now a therapist for vets, and I want to say I can only imagine what you went through, and still need to go through. Sending you good vibes, Alex. And let the music play.
BESIDES GUITARS... WHAT DO YOU COLLECT?
I have varied interests besides music and guitars. My guitar collection has doubled since the beginning of the year. But I also collect several other things. I used to collect sports cards and memorabilia. I still have my collection, but none of it is displayed. I may pull out a few of my prized possessions and display them, but I'm quickly running out of space. Here are some of the things currently on display in my office (or studio, or mancave... take your pick). Funko POPs -- currently limited to Funko POP Rocks! and Vegas Golden Knights figurines. I have a few more Iron Maiden POPs to get, some of them are a bit hard to find. I need two or three more to finish GnR, Ozzy, and AC/DC, and quite a few to finish Queen and KISS. I haven't started on the Hendrix line. I'm not sure if I will, due to space limitations. I think I have all the VGK figurines currently available, including the team's mascot, Chance. I initially planned to collect the Star Wars, Marvel, and GoT figurines, but there are just way too many of them -- I'm planning to sell or trade the few I have. I have a collection of POP keychains, mostly Marvel, with a few Star Wars and Incredibles items included, but I'm no longer actively collecting these. Some other things I collect are watches (especially pocket watches), resin pyramids, resin dragons, Tarot and Oracle cards, rocks, minerals, and crystals (my BS degree is in Geology), and Iron Maiden night lights (have many still to buy). I need a bigger office. So, tell me... besides guitars, stompboxes/pedals, what do you collect? Include photos if you can.

@William Gentry Thanks for your post about collections, and especially about your mystical interests. I too collect Tarot and oracle card decks. I've been reading Tarot for nearly a decade and have many friends in the mystical arts world. It's nice to see my diverse interests cross paths with others who share similar interests.

Congrats Stan!
How you learn?
Im wondering how did everybody learn to play? Did you have an actual teacher? Teach yourself? Do you learn by watching? Do you learn by tab? Me personally, my Stepdad taught me the major chords, and I watched him play some songs then I kinda just used tab and now use youtube lessons. Ive been playing 20 years or so, and can learn pretty much anything. But I know S**t about theory, scales modes ect. Haha

I had many years of music lessons when I was younger, on piano and trumpet; I played trumpet from 5th grade all the way through college and beyond, so that's the instrument I can pick and just play. But it's not a social instrument, and I wanted to be more involved with playing in groups, like church groups and campfire types of singing. A friend of mine lent me her autoharp, and I was immediately in love. The autoharp allowed me to take all of the music knowledge that I had and I could just play it immediately. I could read guitar music and just play the chords (as long as they were one of the 21 chords on the autoharp!) The autoharp led me to really get interested in more instruments, and I picked up electric bass 3 years ago, and love that one a lot. Then ukulele this past year. I bought a couple online courses, and I committed to praticing 10 minutes a day, and I gotta say, that worked. I can play the ukulele now! And now lastly, guitar. It's been a long road to get here, but I'll do the same thing--find a couple courses to go through, and commit to 10 minutes a day.

So, I'm a bit earlier on my guitar journey (decades of music on other instruments), and I just learned Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Etc29mMOaLU, and OMG, I could play that song all day. It's so wonderful to be able to play something beautiful, and then sit back and think "wow, I actually played that!"
